After all, it is only a model railway and as I have often said before I show, I am here to enjoy myself and there is nothing that anybody can say or do to spoil it...............

And that is not a challenge to Messrs Franks, Evans, Belfield, Jackson or any other silly beggar that thinks that they want to try!

Now theres a challenge if ever I saw one :nono: :nono: :nono:

Having a good weekend already, just had my carpets inspired, a shed load of irwell Brewing company beer, The ELRs standard 4 tank on the dining train passing the main stage when the Inspirals were on, the tank and PW's Super D rostered for tomorrow and a load of good bands on and more ale, what more can a man ask for? Oh I know, a free pass for Expo EM North. Missing it already.

Spent an enjoyable hour and a half there today, very nice layouts and very good to be able to get so up close and personal compared to other more generalist exhibitions.

Most enjoyable model was Mansfield because it had the delightful Tony Gee hosting an anything goes session - GC locomotives with LNWR stock that he was jokingly passing off as GC experimental livery and how a North London Railway passenger set would ever had made it to Mansfield behind an 0-6-0 tank I don't know.

Almost made me want to upscale from N.

I`m just arrived home from my visit to the Expo. EM (Nth.)......`a lovely friendly show, at a very easy to find venue, with a nice variety of quality layouts and a particularly good trade-showing.

My three Collie-dogs enjoyed several walks and play sessions on the nice parkland (on the other side of the carpark) at the leisure centre, during the course of our visit......so, we all had a smashing day!

Top marks to the exhibition organisers, show-stewards and (of course) to the exhibitors......`thanks all! :imsohappy:

We visited the exhibition today with some trepidation given the reported problems we could expect with traffic and car parking previously alluded to in earlier posts on this thread. We arrived at 11.30am without experiencing any traffic problems to an easily found venue and drove straight into an empty parking bay 50 yards from the front door.

To me the venue seemed ideal with plenty of potential for expansion should the organisers so decide.

As to the layouts, they where all top quality as you would expect. Particularly so Ogden Fold, Alkham, Hemyock, Anderstaff Yard and Merthyr Riverside all of whom will reward a long watch.

If previous posts have caused you to put off a visit, then I would take the risk, if our experience is typical it may be only a small one.

Parking problems - what parking problems. None whatsoever! There were plenty of spaces all day Saturday. Excellent show. Well worth the 250+mile return trip. First class and interesting layouts and plenty of specialist trade support. If you can make it on Sunday, do so.

Well done to all concerned.

I quite agree. A fine show in a good venue. Easy to find, no parking problems and decent space. An excellent selection of layouts and trade, and a friendly atmosphere. Well worth crossing the Pennines for.

OK, so it suffers from the usual sports center curse of glacial serving speed in the cafe, but it wasn't as bad as some.

Great to catch up with all the RMwebbers :)

Excellent show with high quality layouts and an excellent selection of traders - spent far too much!

The venue is excellent too, and as it is just around the corner from the Trafford Centre, some where for your other half to go and spend more money than you!

If you are in the North West don't miss out.

Having already had my mock-serious grumble about having to cross the Pennines, I did make the trip on Saturday. It took three hours door to door, on foot, by train and by bus (about 30 minutes longer than getting to Slaithwaite, for me) Was it worth it? Yes it was! There aren't many shows where every layout is worth giving a long, leisurely viewing, but this is one; even though work is still in progress in places.

I'll include a snap before I fall into bed -

(Edit for typos and seeing double on one sentence; those few pints of Hydes bitter I had in The Jolly Angler must have had even more effect than I realised.)

I agree it was a superb show, only spoiled for me by the horrendous traffic congestion - I arrived at about 3.30 after fulfilling other fatherly commitments so did not have time to stalk to anybody at length so please forgive me if I seemed to have ignored you!

I was particularly impressed by the number of layouts based in the Lancashire or Yorkshire Pennines - my favoured context.

Getting back to Wensleydale was fun, also. i decided to avoid the M6 and after a quick stop to photo the remains of Manchester Mayfield station (a possible contender for the basis of Bradford North Western) went the scenic route through Burnley, Skipton and Wharfedale. The nice satnav took me via that lovely East Lancs station in Rawtenstall but then got me lost in its back streets, followed by a stop for a very good tray of fish and chips and home at about 9.30, exhausted!

Thanks to all involved in creating the show.

Ian

P.S. Tony (Gee), what prototype is your station building mock-up based on?

Well, I don’t know what all the fuss about perceived problems with public transport and car parking was about?

I travelled to expoEM North by train from Selsdon in Surrey yesterday. A couple of changes and a pleasant walk from Urmston station saw me arrive just in time for opening.

There were plenty of car parking spaces at this time and that was still the case when I went out side to make a call around 11:30.

The long day out was certainly worth it. A really good friendly and informative show and I am looking forward to returning next year as part of the St Merryn team.

Thank you to all involved.

Steve

I can only echo what everyone else has said - excellent show, friendly people, and in a good easy to reach venue.

I had allowed my membership of the EM Gauge Society to lapse some years ago when I was out of work, on the strength of what I've seen this weekend I've rejoined the Society again.

Well done on an excellent show, already looking forawrd to next year!

Regards

Paul
