P.C.M
Hi Mark, I have just been catching up on your new layout. You don't hang around to you, it's looking good too. I really like the station area, and the class 56 on steel really looks the part. Cheers Peter.

1977joey
Those signs look really good, clocks are great too. Wouldnt have thought to do that , well done. Cheers Gloucester Road . It was only when looking through some old pictures as I had the idea, as my previous efforts at making station clocks wern't very good Hi Mark, I have just been catching up on your new layout. You don't hang around to you, it's looking good too. I really like the station area, and the class 56 on steel really looks the part. Cheers Peter. Thanks peter I've surprised myself to be honest as my enthusiasm comes & goes, but i'm glad i'm on a roll with it now & am enjoying watching it come together More brilliant additions to the station Mark, looks really great. Thanks Scott Well guys more work done to Shawbury station today, & the station area itself is almost nearing completion. Once this is done my attentions will turn to the rest of the layout, especially the area in front of the main station area. I still need to add the 'Shawbury' nameboards & signals to the station area. Today i've added the departure screens, populated the platforms & painted the canopies over the bay platforms. This I think improves the overall look of the station. The phone boxes are just temporary as these are off my old layout, but I do have a couple of 80's Telecom phoneboxes to construct from shirescenes, as well as 3 'Brutes' which were seen at most main line stations in the 80's. Here's the scene at Shawbury station as of today..... the departure screens made from plasticard, marker pens for the actual screen & yellow paint for the casing The screens mounted in place platforms now populated & glass waiting room added Looking south to the bay platforms The canopies over the bay platforms now painted. The neares over 3 & 4 painted in a buff colour, & the other over 1 & 2 in an off black colour. Just how i remember them in the 80's at the real Shrewsbury In this shot you can just see the clocks added inder the canopies An early morning shot of a memeber of platform staff standing under the TV moniters awaiting the arrival of a DMU from Wolverhampton Cheers for now guys, Mark
sammyboy
A truly fantastic layout you have there. The track plan seems so simple, but the operation of the layout must be great with the chance to run proper length express passenger trains the way they were meant to be run, with locomotives on the front! All the detail around the station platforms is excellent, and the canopies made from plasticard is also a good idea, i'll think of that when I put together the station area on my layout. Thanks very much Sammy i've always found plasticard pretty easy to work with as you can make any shape you want. Glad you like the station, once i've got the signals sorted i'll concentrate on detailing the rest of the layout. All the best, mark
1977joey
Evening Chaps, This evening I've contructed my own signals to represent semephores & colour lights, as both types are seen at the real Shrewsbury station. I find signals expensive to buy, so have given it a go using cotton buds, plasticard & pins for the safety rail. Although extremely tedious to make using superglue I've managed to make a reasonable representation of the real things. They are all none working. Here are the latest pictures now the station area has signals. I'm yet to make ground/shunt signals for the sidings. A signal base under construction... The colour light signals in place at the north end guarding the goods loop, up main (Platform 4) & the down main which is bi-directional controlled by a semaphore (platform 1) I'm yet to add vegitation in front of the office building facing Platform 4 Now the south end, Colour lights guarding platforms 3 & 4, a semaphore for the goods loop, & semaphores for Platforms 1 & 2 A look back towards the station with the signals in place A close up of my hand made semaphores guarding Platforms 1 & 2. Cheers for now guys, Mark

I'll take 1/2 dozen signals please............in OO of course :D Thanks Scott Glad you like it. I've added the 'Shawbury' nameboards this eveing & the platforms now have their numbers. I will take some pictures once i've tidied up everything. I'll be honest, making the signals was a very tedious & time consuming task, glueing my fingers together more than the structure I was trying to make lol! Amazing layout and i agree the station looks brilliant you certainly didnt hang about . Thanks Agreen I've surprised myself to be honest how quick it's come together, as my enthusiasm for constructing, measuring & glueing comes & goes. Luckily I've been working a lot of early shifts over the last couple of weeks & have made the most of my early finishes with working on the layout Your layout looks very impressive!! luv the detail of your station... Thanks Class 66, glad you like it All the best, Mark
1977joey
Evening Guys. I had to replace some track at the north end of the station this eve as one of the fishplates was a bit worn. Luckily i'd ordered some more ballast & have finished off that side of things thankfully . I've also added a wall in front of the office building oposite the platforms at the north end & also finished the one behind the main station frontage. The Platforms now have nameboards & are now numbered. I've also painted the ladders black on the signals at the south end as it looks way better, & have moved the one semephore to the correct position as i knew it was wrong. Here are the pictures explaining...... The north end of platform 4 (4b) showing the scratch built colour light signals & the new wall now added seperating the office building from the railway A different angle showing the new nameboard on the flower bed Nameboards now under the station canopy & platform numbers. I'm yet to add lift doors behind the stairs The station buffet & toilets Bay platforms now numbered the wall behind the main station building now finished & edged A look at the south end of the station. The sidings on the far right are now ballasted with a little scatter added. I've moved the semaphore signal on the left to the correct postion The ladders now painted black on the signals I'm yet to add vegitation to the green area's, road markings & add back scene panels. My Mark 2 coaches have arrived today which i'm going to vinyl into InterCity livery for my 'Eustons' Cheers for now guys, Mark

sammyboy
I do like the mix of signals with the old semaphores and modern colour light ones, not something you see at stations these days. And I hope that there is some railway enthusiasts who work in the office block in the corner of the layout, that place would be great for some loco spotting at work! Cheers Sammyboy I think Shrewsbury is the only station now that has both types of signals. Just recently a new semaphore was added to the southend of Platform 3 & at the north end there is a gantry with 2 colour lights & a semephore. I aint a signal expert but I don't think any other station has that type of mixture. The office on the corner is going to gain a 'British Telecom' 80's logo soon All the best, Mark

1977joey
Thanks Jack & Class 66 Well guys, not much work done to the layout since my last post, but as the sun was beaming through the windows earlier (Which feels like a rarity lately!!) I thought i'd take a couple of shots of the station in natural lighting... 1st up is a brace of Class 150 Sprinters in the bays, the 4 car set at platform 2 forming the 1st sunday service down the cambrian line to Aberystwyth, which leaves around 14:00, at Platform 3 a 2 car set will shortly leave calling at all stations to Wolverhampton Zooming in....not the best zoom on my camera phone meanwhile at platform 4b, the 11:17 dmu to Chester via Wrexham waits formed of a 3 car Class 108 (101 trailer) Another shot of the Sprinters in the bays. Cheers for now guys, Mark
Jack00
Brilliant pictures of the 150's. You could even have a play around and and make 150/3's... Consisting of a complete 150/1 and a dummy car of another 150/1 coupled to the end. Possibly prototypical to the era (or maybe a little later) centro days in RR's livery. Looking good the low station shots really show off the station details. Jack.

I always thought that Farish could do a nice limited edition for a fairly low cost. Mark - Your layout is looking fantastic. I think the way you run your trains really makes it look like a proper junction station at this time.
Jack00
Yes would make a good Ltd Edition. DMU' are in all sorts of weird combo's these days. Hybrids of 150's / 153's. jack.

Hi Jack, Do you mean like this I do remember the splitting of Class 150/2 sets & a car inserted between 2 Class 150/1 cars. I have 6 150 units, 4 150/1's & 2 150/2's, one of which I use to run as centre cars with the 150/1's when required. I'd love it if farish released an early Centro/Regional Railways 3 car 150 as it would just fit into my era....but I think we'd be in for a long wait I'm shocked there's been no releases of 150's since the initial batch back in 2009 considering the variety of liveries they've carried.
