Returning to this post ..................#757.....on this thread..................

I was in WH.Smith's yesterday,

There is a book, "The Odd Corners' of the Southern", by a Mr Postlewaite, (sorry if authors' name is mis-spelt).

It has,a good quality B/W pic. of this grounded van, with a coal pile,& scale's,step's and platform, for entry to the van.

Coal was weighed, bagged in sack's and stored by the local merchant,in the van, ready for delivery.........

A very good reference  photograph..........  go source the pic.......Adrian.........the book is £13.

I haven't looked at Odd Corners for ages (btw, there's a More Odd Corners too). Packed full of useful stuff.

In the Intro the author says that he mapped and photographed every inch of Brasted Yard, counted every sleeper.

I've just dug out More Odd Corners and it's got several branch pictures in it, including the wooden platelayers' hut at Brasted - a great project there for you Adrian.

Incidentally, the Bluebell Museum seems to have Alan Postlethwaite's collection of pictures now; it's not clear from their write-up whether he's still with us:

Hi Ron, a very big thank you for that link http://www.bluebell-...os/ap/index.htm that is the most comprehensive collection of pictures of Brasted Station I have seen, they are scattered all down the listing. Also Westerham/Chevening and Dunton Green Stations. The platelayers hut, point levers, loading gauge and loads of little details will be of great use. I am going to spend a fair bit of time looking at all these pictures. Many thanks and all the best Adrian.

Glad they're useful. I think that a good few may be heading for my book!

I particularly liked the one of N Class 2-6-0 no 31828 with freight train 'borrowing' the branch.

I needed a lamp hut for Brasted Station, and for some reason I thought that the Wills kit would fit the bill, and would make a change from scratch building everything. Well after unpacking it, and looking at the picture of the one at Brasted, guess what, nothing like it, but the good thing with the Wills kit you get two huts. The two plain sides, roof and door end I could use, and all that I would need to make was the window end, and a brick plinth for it to sit on. The roof edges were thinned with a scapel to show the edges of the corrugations, The window end was made from two layer of corrugated plasticard, and the window frame from some strip. A brick plinth was made from some 3mm foamex with a chamfer on the top edge and the edges covered with brick plasticard. I have used the roof vent that came with the kit but have extended it slightly with a bit of rod. It is removable as I intend changing it at some point, as it is not quite correct being a bit large. A dust over with grey primer first, then painted with a wash of grey and railmatch rust. The pictures show the hut before I site it at Brasted.

That's brilliant, really nice use of both the kit and styrene bits.

The finished colouring is superb as always, you seem to have a knack for capturing the essence of a structure and make it look so easy, although I know it's not.

Nice one Adrian.

Al.

My main complaint about your work is that you make it look far, far too easy so that it tempts me to have a go myself.

I can see mespending endless hours trying to build something of similar quality and becoming very frustrated at my failure to do so.

Adrian,

I was going to click 'Agree' but I only agree to the first line, I could not comment on Ron's abilities.

I have said elsewhere that I hate threads that go, 'Here's one I produced earlier' and everyone replies, 'ooh', 'ah' 'wow', etc.  You show us how it is done, and I am still dumbfounded at the quality.  Keep it up Adrian, and keep enjoying yourself.

Hope you had a good day at the show.

That's it I spent all my pocket money yesterday at RMweb live, What's the use of a lamp hut with no lamps, so throwing caution to the winds and seeing others dipping deep into their wallets I got caught up in a buying frenzy and brought these.

It was a good to meet so many of you, and apologies to the people I missed having a proper chat with. all the best Adrian.

PS. Westerham Station will be in the November issue of BRM out in October. So thanks again for all your votes
