A Nod To Brent - a friendly thread, filled with frivolity, cream teas and pasties. Longing for the happy days in the South Hams 1947.

And Flora Finching sat on the bench. But where is Minnie and why are they in Penzance?

Is this the same Flora Finching that was Arthur Clennam’s former fiancé?

Now (some say) she is on secondment from Bletchley Park, and send under cover to check security at the nearby St.Erth's Radio Security Service Station.

Yes indeed, she is a Dickensian character. I can't remember how Minnie came in - maybe Rob can - but the two of them are part of ANTB lore (according to the RMweb search engine they were first introduced by Rob on March 29, 2013).

As for the RSS station, it seems impossible to find anyone who can confirm or deny!

For our story, Flora Finching (a.k.a. Maria Beadnell) would, of course, have passed through Brent on the down train.

She may have also been active in Section D Home Defence Organisation

Then the setting-up of operations in both Devon

and Cornwall

All that, no doubt, but maybe it's just a cover?

If they were trying to pass themselves off as Cornish ladies rather than Devonian, then clearly they would have put the jam on first.

Ah yes, the order of jam and cream - those all-important little clues that have blown the cover of many a secret agent.

Looking back through this thread, it is interesting to note that all images of the Finchings have disappeared. Clearly someone is trying to hide their identity. This is the last we heard of them:

A few more of 18000 although Flora Finching shews no interest in the new kid on the block.

You will no doubt tell us there are no such traps with a Danish pastry!

I wish! I had to eat one with fingers every morning on my train from Euston to Bletchley! My only breakfast!

No, no, no!!

You never put cream on a toasted teacake. We don't even put jam on them, just butter!

It's hard enough to keep the savages from the door these days, toasted teacakes are our one indulgence and sanctuary from the outside world!

I don't but the names were inspired by your excellent tales on Farthing and were Dickens inspired. Of course Minnie Finching wasn't a Dickens character though and was made up. I'll be taking some more railmotor shots this week so maybe the ladies will feature again.😉

Only one of the sisters was present when railmotor No.97 arrived.

Aha, so that would be Minnie? The plot thickens!

The SRM looks good at Brent, Rob. I was surprised by how long it is, not really the cute little branchline thing you'd expect.

Edit: I also can't help but feel that if you are trying to have your locos blend into the scenery more, painting huge block letters/numbers on them in white is counterproductive.

As is polishing the chimney cop and safety valve cover. Unless they were trying to dazzle the boche snipers.

Accurascale has taken over several of Hatton’s products, according to their email today - but at the end of the message is a teaser - could it be they will reengineer the Collett 0-4-2 in a future project

Spot on Limpet Stroker,

I respectfully suggest that the delay in confirmation revolves around Accurascale's initial WT*! on seeing the chassis of the Hattons 14xx before designing one that will work as a currently produced scale model should.

Rob.

And add in the phantom ash pan......

I'd certainly entertain an Accurascale 48xx/58xx and finally scratch the GWR branchline itch.......
