allan downes
Can't show you the finished bay or any pics because when I click on 'Attach Files' all I get is a blank and no access to my files. Yesterday this only happened on IE now it also happens on Firefox but only on RMweb - elsewhere, no problems at all. Check out Model Railway Forum and you'll see the finished bay on there. Cheers. monkeysarefun
Hi Allan and anyone else interested in this architectural style, I can really recommend this book: It has floor plans and overall elevations of a huge variety of Victorian architectural structures but its main strength is all the plans of details it has - from windows, doors, woodwork, porches to shop fronts and counters. I got it because the style is very similar to the Australian federation style that I am starting to model. Federation houses are usually red brick and tile and have large verandahs to cope with the Sydney summer, but the details and overall feel are pretty much the same. Oh, and they have real chimneys to keep you happy Allan: I'm not sure what 9 pounds means in money but I paid about 15 australian dollars for it and its well worth it.
RMweb Premium Sasquatch Posted October 3, 2014 RMweb Premium Share Posted October 3, 2014 (edited) During the post hypoglycemic kafuddle this morning I managed to go out without my camera, so had to use my phone and these pictures are crap but I'll post them anyway seeing as I went to so such lengths to find a space to park my 22' truck in downtown Ashland. Nightmare! These first 3 are of the fanciest B&B. This place has rooms for $200 and up per night and is always full. The breakfast must be good! The black sheep is an English pub complete with British beer on tap and an all day full English breakfast! allan downes
That book arrived to day -best nine quid I've ever spent, it's absolutely brilliant and now there'll be no stopping me ! Mythocentric
As Mr. Johnson once famously said, "You ain't seen nothin' yet!" I don't know if monkeysarefun realises what he's started here, but having seen what Allan can do off the top of his head, this could get seriously interesting! allan downes
Today on 'Family Bathrooms' (Escape to the country) "So" presenter to Mr and Mrs Veggie-Patch " A nice little cosy stone built cottage in Wales with a veggie patch then? "Oh yes please, Henry just loves beans and I love beams, ha, ha, ha" "Well" said the presenter pointing to Cearnarfon Casle " There's this, but it needs a roof, interested? " "Hmm,how much ? " "50 Bil' as is, 60 bil' gets you the castle AND a roof and the owner will throw in Harlech Castle " "Done - Henry, fetch a saw, to hell with cozyness, runner beans and the WI, we're gonna build a roof - with beams " All perfectly true. allan downes
And another one bit the dust! This was largely a hit and miss affair working off pictures on the internet and on comparing the style to English type houses I thought I had drifted well out of scale and almost into gauge one until I got the plan book off Amazon where I was as close as makes no difference and in reality these timber framed buildings were really massive where even the standard size windows are 6ft high. So, the next one, which I've already started, will be worked up from a plan in the book -' Victorian Domestic Architectural Plans And Details' by William T Comstock and 9 quid from Amazon. Cheers. Mythocentric
Al Jolson, I do believe ... Naw! That's the singer fella isn't it? I meant Alf Johnson, the renowned Lancashire inventor and his famous elastic-powered, self-propelled garden gnomes (fishing rod optional) which caused such havoc in Corporation Park during the summer of '76! Are you heading towards a diorama Allan or keeping them as individual models? I can see a few modellers stateside who would love to get their hands on them! Regards Bill Thinks! We still haven't figured out where the statue of Flora got to!

monkeysarefun
Fair dinkum, I got that book 2 months ago and still haven't finished looking at all the pictures yet and there you are already building stuff from it! I'm only fairly new here but here's a couple of other books that I thought you might get some inspiration from: And have you ever thought about building one of these? I was at my dads last week and pulled this out of the ceiling, I must have been 15 when I built it and being Australian and 15 I didn;t even know what thatch was but spent my May holidays glueing strands of wool to the roof and covering it with flock because Allan Downes told me to!
