Well despite breaking in my new boots all morning I have managed to get on with the scenic fluff

some colour has been added to the road to cover the plaster, same to the flat area although the white is still present at the moment

you'll notice some bushes have been added near scenic break / joins

I lay the 50/50 PVA down and cover a random third with fine foam turf

med_gallery_17883_3001_173227.jpgrmweb551terraforming67

add a second colour

med_gallery_17883_3001_67626.jpgrmweb552terraforming

and the third, FYI I spindle by foam by hand in finger pinches, low and focused for single colour, high and wide for toning the edges

med_gallery_17883_3001_46864.jpgrmweb553terraforming69

Any bit not covered will become exposed rock, worn mud, or even puddles as we progress.

don't ignore the back, and if matching colour don't do it later when you struggle to remember what you used!!!

med_gallery_17883_3001_293638.jpgrmweb555terraforming71

med_gallery_17883_3001_203605.jpgrmweb556terraforming72

joins etc need to be broken up so they do not draw the eye, here I have initially added a single line of small bushes into the crevice, then drowned them in 50/50 PVA water, as it leaks through it fixes the bush in place

med_gallery_17883_3001_200470.jpgrmweb557terraforming73

But more importantly allows you to dribble some of the fine foam over them blending them in

at the same time I repeat 3 colour camo, concentrating on any area I believe are a little lacking in colour.

You notice the thin hedging lines draw the eye...not a good idea

med_gallery_17883_3001_441423.jpgrmweb559terraforming75

Also I thought the base colour was looking a little pale now so much green is evidence, so I dry brushed some black, and wet it a little for a dark grey, to tone it down

med_gallery_17883_3001_173530.jpgrmweb560terraforming76

I was pleased with the result so added a bit more, black might seem severe, but everywhere you look black exists especially inside shadows

med_gallery_17883_3001_442155.jpgrmweb560terraforming77

and adding more hedging to break up the horrible straight line

med_gallery_17883_3001_359482.jpgrmweb561terraforming78

thus avoiding filling in the hole will filler, and look more asymmetrical so therefore...hopefully...more realistic

asymmetrical
eɪsɪˈmɛtrɪkl/
adjective

  1. 1.
having parts which fail to correspond to one another in shape, size, or arrangement; lacking symmetry.
"the church has an asymmetrical plan with an aisle only on one side"

:scratchhead:  :scratchhead:...........but..........that's the heart of my layout.........

I popped some trees back in to get a feel for how it was going, this takes seconds to do, much longer to photograph upload re upload and post  :declare:

med_gallery_17883_3001_72763.jpgrmweb562terraforming79

And while I remember matched the black dry brushing to the two embanments

med_gallery_17883_3001_284505.jpgrmweb563terraforming80

med_gallery_17883_3001_93609.jpgrmweb564terraforming81

quickly popped them in situ to test everything was going ok, noticed the scenic detail at the back had no colour so quickly toned it in

I kept this one back because it shows how you can accidentally think your layout is a T.A.R.D.I.S.

Here I can fit a farm house, a farm outbuilding, and more and even a windmill (tribute to Mr Downes)

med_gallery_17883_3001_542319.jpgrmweb566terraforming83

But as you can see the ceiling is quite low,

med_gallery_17883_3001_18631.jpgmweb568terraforming84

so the reality is once it is in situ the sloped roof seriously limits what can actually fit

med_gallery_17883_3001_209530.jpgrmweb560terraforming86

and at the wall you want something that is good enough so you don't think how awful but not good enough that it takes you to the edge and you fall off the edge of the world, very flat earth society,

hence the road infers you are going over the hill, and the hedge cuts the skyline, and the lorry in closer to hopefully keep your eye in the layout

Also being an avid collector of  ready made resin buildings, we are coming to terms that we need to make them blend in, the one on the left has some copydex littered with some 'leaves' to look like ivy.

med_gallery_17883_3001_23511.jpgrmweb561terraforming87

When we reach the final step of the scenic fluff on floor, we will also need to dig the buildings in, otherwise they tend to 'float'. There are several techniques, standing the building in cling film or tinfoil is popular so you can 'green' right up to the edges. Copydex on the building itself is to my mind a good option as when I have not liked the result I have just rubbed it off. I plan a little weathering. And Kal has asked for water features including a village pond.

:sungum: I have two more lots of these pictures to go up, but after I sorted those this morning....I started on the rest of Heartbeat area, It may be winter here, but on Arboretum Valley it appears to be spring as green is bursting out all over the place. If you ever decided to follow this idea, that open area would ensure you had little issues with the dust. It is a fast way to work...once you get going. Perhaps you should come here and I'll do a workshop lol.

edit = Kal says apparently it is a beautiful part of the country ....whats the nearest airport?

You can see the facia is look less in yer face

med_gallery_17883_3001_446550.jpgrmweb562terraforming88

med_gallery_17883_3001_150443.jpgrmweb563terrforming89

The colour is still building up,more brown washes, black washes are likely to follow, we still need more green fluffy stuff, and the turf around the farmhouse has not even got static grass yet.

And just a reminder of how colourful it looked originally, when someone other than me might have looked at it...looked at the bin...and pushed it surreptitiously into it...and gone and bought a ready made one

the bridge back in place

med_gallery_17883_3001_16253.jpgrmweb565terraforming9

turf appearing everywhere

med_gallery_17883_3001_402629.jpgrmweb565terraforming92

different levels, the gap at the back is the Big House, too much wet glue for it to be in place, if the church stays here, there will be a bunch of trees, a stile and a lot of gravestones, and a wall

if I can fit it in the police house would be nice here

rmweb566terraforming94

there should be room for at least part of the carpark next to the Aidensfield Arms, but it rarely appears in Heartbeat so is not too important

med_gallery_17883_3001_483483.jpgrmweb567terraforming95

Scripps, however, is a main staple, and is conveniently right opposite the Aidensfield Arms.

Yesterday, I decided I would start on some of the Airfix kits we purchased.  :locomotive:

I had not done one since I was about eight and so thought I would start with something simple. :read:

So I got all my tools together and opened up the Land Rover and trailer Hard top as a starter. :good:

Everything started well until I got to the 4th piece, Hmm Hardtop land rover, but the door on the sprue looks as if it off a MK1 air portable?? :scratchhead:

Check through every component, but no I have not made a mistake. :rtfm:

Check google for pictures to see , if there was ever some bizarre setup of a hard top with a half door, no joy. :nono:

Sent a letter to Hornby requesting said door and for now that is the end of that. :mail:

What a disappointment. :threaten:

Last night I discovered my pot of varnish was now so low that it can start to dry in the pot even with the lid on. There was a congealed jelly top, and the consistency of the rest reminded me of a  a day old trifle. So I decided to quickly start on the village pond. I roughly cut a hole, painted it black, added a smidgeon of blue and brown, cut the congealed top with a paint brush and lifted it into the hole, repeated the process until all the set surface was laid out pushed it as flat as possible, then tried lifting the sticky stuff on top in the hope of getting a flat finish. I sprinkled some green foam around the edges, stepped back and thought....hmmmm. However if the varnish sets it will be a decent base for the pond, may need a new tin of varnish but will need to gather some items together for the pond edging.

Grass, Bullrushes, that sort of thing, we have some wild fowl already that can visit.

So now it is late morning, and I am off to brave the loft and see what happened........ I'll take a photograph......how could I not. :jester:

P.S. I topped up a few other areas with the dregs of the varnish :butcher: .....results may be.....interesting.... :scared:
