While out delivering leaflets for my business this morning, I stumbled across this beauty. Presumably it was tempted out by the unseasonably gorgeous weather today. I've never really been a Rootes fan, but I must admit to a soft spot for the Rapier, in either this or its later Arrow derived guise.

And just for once I'll forgive the Australian penchant for sticking whitewalls on everything.

Edit: sorry. That was supposed to be an edit, not a quote.

A bit grainy this but a nice period pic all the same - taken by a Beatles fan from the steps at the front of Abbey Road studios in the Summer of '67, John, Paul and Ringo emerge from a Mk2 Jag and in the background are a Mk1 Triumph 2000, an MGA Roadster, a Peugeot 404 saloon and a Hillman Imp...

Down the Smoke in 1969... where did all those lovely early FX4 taxis go to be scrapped, I don't recall ever seeing any in 'normal' scarp yards back in the day...?

LONDON 1969 FX4s.jpg

Many of them went to provincial cities and towns and served there much longer than the ten years or so that they did in London.

And when they were too knackered for that, they probably ended up in Malta...

Not completely, many of the diesel engines did. In fact a lot were scrapped for their engines many of which ended up powering canal boats.

The same fate awaited the diesel engines out of old Daihatsu Fourtraks.....those engines very popular with powered boat enthusiasts.

[Not to mention, a decent alternative diesel for a Land Rover or two?}

Wrong how...? The only Innocenti bits on it are the headlamp rims, all of the mods done on it were done in period as per Radfords, Hoopers, Wood & Picketts of the period, inside and out.

It also has the Innocenti grill “eyebrows”.......yes they were used by modifiers over here but not nice IMHO......but the worst thing is the flares......ruined a nice Mini

Not sure what you mean by 'grille eyebrows' David... the grille on this car is a Benelite item (made in Birmingham) and the chrome surround and end pieces (also known as hockey sticks) are standard Mk1 Austin / Morris Mini items ;).

I don't recall Mini's having rectangular sidelight/indicators? They look very similar to the ones fitted to the Riley Elf in the other picture?
