Really? Presumably that would have been to Oxford ? North & West.....don't think so !

It was actually a special from East Croydon to Maidenhead/Marlow - the passengers alighted at Maidenhead for a boat trip to Marlow.  A 61XX worked the stock to Marlow  seemingly with another working it back loaded to Bourne end where 32425 "Trevose Head' took over for the onward working to East Croydon (presumably having gone to Slough to turn after working the outward train to Maidenhead?)

Nothing much wrong with that stud. The Brighton was a tank-engine railway by and large, all the way up to Baltics on the heaviest main line trains. The I2 is interesting. And having had the SECR C Class and LSWR 700, might a C2x hove in sight in my lifetime?

I would rather have a C2X than a H2. One with the second dome to accommodate Lawson Billinton's boiler top feed apparatus, and lots of grime too :-

I had one on pre-order but my main focus has moved onto N gauge.  I still run BR(S) 1950's and 1960's steam in OO but it no longer my main interest and as soon as the price rise was announced I binned my pre-order straight away.  I am happy to take a chance that like many other recent models (The E4, the 700, 2-BIL, 2-Hap and others) that after the initial rush and hub-bub has died down, price reductions start to kick in and I can pick one up for a cheaper price.

New releases have gone from get immediately before they sell out to a waiting game to see if they become available for more sensible prices further down the road.

Seems like only yesterday we were talking about a £100 psychological barrier.

Indeed it does, but I was quite surprised to take my 2006 Hornby Britannia out of its box last week and note that I paid a bit over 100 pounds when I bought it just after release.

I know where you are coming from.I bought 7MT Lord Rowalian (Super Detail) back in 2009 brand new. The sticker price, which is still on the box was £77.00.Marvellous model complete with real coal !!!!!

I was told by one of the guys in the Members Lounge of the Bachmann stand at Ally Pally this weekend that the Atlantic and the Birdcages are now 'in China'.

Progress at last ?

Early and late versions are planned, in BR and Southern liveries. Hopefully the early version can also be done in pre-grouping LB&SCR livery, perhaps as a Collectors club edition.

Didn't the SR cut the cabs down and fit lower boiler fittings to increase the route availability of the Atlantics?

Hi, what is the implication of being "in China" ??

That would be my understanding too.

If the Southern made alterations, could the early version be the LB&SCR version and the late model be Southern and BR ? Or did BR make further mods to the ones the Southern had already carried out ?

An earlier contributor mentioned the cost of the H2 at Hattons.  I have received the following email from Kernow just now and quote below for information:

Dear Mr White

You have the following Bachmann item on order with us;

31-920 Bachmann Atlantic H2 Class 4-4-2 Steam Locomotive number 2426 named "St Albans Head" in SR Olive Green livery

At the time you placed the order, Bachmann did not list a price for the item, but in order for us to be able list the item for pre-orders, without just making up a price, we had listed it at £0.01p.
This was on the understanding that once Bachmann announced the price, we would offer it to you at approximately15% less than the RRP, but let you know what the price was once known, with the option to cancel at any time if this price proved prohibitive.
Prices are now available, and although this does not necessarily mean the arrival of the product is imminent, we would be grateful if you could let us know as soon as possible whether or not you still wish to proceed, so we can adjust our quantities ordered from Bachmann if necessary.

The RRP of this item is £179.95 and we will be retailing it at £152.99.

We look forward to hearing from you in due course,
With thanks and regards,

Kernow Model Rail Centre

I'll be keeping my order with Kernow as I want to continue to support their commissioning of Southern stock (even if it is LSWR focussed rather than LBSCR!)

Thanks. I will make it my business to order from Kernow on that basis, too. My existing H2 - in umber - is unpowered, having been made for me from a Jidenco kit by a former skoolmate no longer with us.

I had ordered one of the LBSCR Atlantics in Southern Olive green from Hattons, without much research on the delivery, but now find that in these postings that it is not yet in production. Not Hattons fault, I did not ask, but as it was in the list I assumed that it would be here soon. In practical terms I assume not this year then from Bachmann's details at the Alexandra Palace MR show.(is this show yearly?)

Whilst it is reasonable to pre publicise items for sale, these delays from 2013 are very frustrating indeed. These days I cannot travel to shows, due to illness, so purchases are purely mail order as we have lost model shops, although there is a newer one that is quite good. But I doubt that the Atlantic will be stocked there, too specialist.an item.

Are there going to be any suitable early type coaches?, and what wwould be available now to run with the locomotives 1930's livery.?

Stephen.

Sorry to hear of your difficulties,Stephen.Yes it must be very difficult for you not to be able to see for yourself at first hand what you intend to purchase.

However,to reassure you, available now and ready to run with your (eventual) Atlantic are Hornby Maunsell SR olive green coaches,Hornby Pullmans,GWR Colletts ( inter-regional workings e.g.Brighton-Cardiff  )

The Maunsell SR have been out of production for some time but do turn on on ebay fairly regularly. The one exception is the "Return From Dunkirk" set which does contain 3 in the darker 'wartime' olive green.Kernow have split these (or some) and are selling the three Maunsells separately.

Hope this helps . Regards,Ian.

Thanks for the update, a set of the Maunsell Olive Green ones on order with Kernow. Yet again on the previous set of suburban coaches is another lost sale for Hornby, when are they getting their act together and have steady supply, it is slowly killing them and the hobby. Unless an item proves unpopular it should be available for as long as sales demand, but they do batch production in China at best, and at worst leave customers stranded, it might help explain their many problems.

Hi All,

Have spoken to the local model shop's Bachmann Rep about the Brighton Atlantic, since there seems to be no firm idea of when it will emerge. He doesn't expect us to even see test shots until the end of the year, and as for future livery variations he says it is unlikely but not impossible to see an LBSC liveried version and even listed off the changes that would be needed to the moulding to make one.

As far as I understand, Beachy Head will emerge on the Bluebell in BR Black. I'm sure however that there will be some call for it to appear in LBSCR livery at some point in its first boiler ticket, and this would be prime Bachmann Collectors Club fodder!

Hi Chris,

That's exactly what I originally thought so I asked pretty much that as I would like it in LBSC livery since that's what I model. I have posted the response from Bachmann below so everyone can make their own opinion. Based on what it says I will be buying one with the intention of backdating it to LBSC condition and repainting it myself.

Always a possibility but not with the current tooling as there was a number of changes towards its later life.

Three being the chimney, dome and the height of the cab roof .

It is always taken into consideration where there are variants.

Hopefully we will see test shots toward the end of this year so as they say never say never

I don't think it's impossible and I think Bachmann may have already considered it but without a yes from them I won't be waiting.

Gary

They haven't outright cancelled this project yet?

Ken it's certainly taking it's time - like the SECR birdcage coaches and the 009 Baldwin locomotive. I'm confident that those projects are moving forward, albeit slowly.

Speaking to Bachmann back in March, H2's and Birdcage stock as mentioned above we will be lucky to see any of these by the end of the year... maybe early next. Talking to the guy on the stand they have strengthened their CAD staff to speed up the progress on the design side. Moving along but quite slowly.
