Photo of myself and two like minded spotters plus 45103 , 45103 coasted in engine shut down disgruntled driver said "every time power was reduced engine shut down" he had run the last twenty or so miles hand to mouth.

Fantastic photo, brings back happy memories of grimy, gritty St Pancras as it was when I was a nipper!

Ah the Leicester…. Nottingham… Derby triangle. Always a happy hunting ground for D1-10ers in the late 60s … great photo

Since I signed the road up as far as Toton I've been half expecting  a D1'er to come looming out of the fog on a slow moving coal train, but alas the time space continuum has let me down!

At college in Nottingham on a two year shortened course, 1973-5, I was a regular visitor to the bank overlooking Toton at weekends.

Only once were all ten class 44's there at the same time.

And it looks odd (to me) to see them while headcodes were still in use. I think I used to have in my mind the 45/1s from the late'70s/early '80s with dominos or sealed headlamps.

But I now know that they were some of the first locos to get TOPS numbers when converted.

Nice to see someone has removed the air pipe off the 45/46 bogie. Just in case of that run down the midland to St. Pancras with a set of coffins :)

Love that photo, I can imagine the smell of the oil and diesel, the sound of the engine idling away and the anticipation of the next loco to appear, great stuff!

Hopefully some 'Peak' expert can identify this one crossing the High Level Bridge out of Newcastle with a southbound train on 30th March 1980. Part of the bridge structure obscures the number which seems to begin with 4603(x). That's the Swing Bridge in the background, of course. Many thanks in advance
