What state is the loco shed at Marley Hill thought that there was a structural problem with it?

At present it has steel supports outside on the front wall, inside there is scaffolding behind the front wall.  The shed is still in use.

I understand that the intention is to carry out remedial work in due course.

David, I really like DSC 6550!

Best, Pete.

I quite often take photos like that one, mainly for camera club competitions - some judges like them!.

Hi, Dave. Really like both the photo's of the Tanfield Railway and those of the southern end of Polhill Tunnel. I particularly like the steamy effects in DSC_5554 and DSC_5555 of Sir Cecil A Cochrane and Number 2 at Marley Hill.

It is good seeing the EMU's working 'unsung' in the Polhill Tunnel shots, for these really are the photo's of the 'everyday railway' that I wish more photographers would take. They are a valuable resource for future generations.

All the best,

Market65.

Probably why some artists like to paint “Still Life” - it’s all in the composition and subtle colors.

Best, Pete.

Agreed, but what a shame the "designers" couldn't have made the emu's a bit less like runaway coaches and a bit more like .......well...a train?

Virtually all our units from around 1955 share the same boring outline...a coach.

IMHO, of course.

Lovely snowy pictures at Haughley and the steam from the heating in C4285 really captures the atmosphere...

C4304...is that a motor worked detonator placer in the foreground?

Jon F.

The box, which would have been behind the DMU in the photo, was replaced by a panel in the station buildings next to the level crossing, so the only way to work a detonator would be by motor.

Hi, Dave. More great photo's of the Tanfield Railway, with a good selection of loco's and stock to be seen.

I like the Yorkshire photo's, especially the first one, C4443 at Dore with a 47 in April, 1979. Photo' C12073 with 142085 at Normanton on 5th April, 1989, is nice and wet and gloomy!

All the best,

Those 3 freight train pics are quite something. 11 years after the end of steam, but they are still effectively steam age freight trains with blue diesels pulling them. You could substitute those with a WD 2-8-0 and they would still look "right"

Wonderful...

Hi, Dave. Like very much the Tanfield Railway photo's. The photo's from Derbyshire are great ones as well. I find especially interesting photo' C979, of two 25's at Hindlow, numbers 7601 and 7606, with work on singling the line under way. Then photo' C3796, of 56011 at Poolsbrook, with the train leaving Duckmanton Colliery in April, 1978, is a classic scene.

All the best,
