RMweb Gold Market65 Posted May 23, 2019 RMweb Gold Share Posted May 23, 2019 Hi, Dave. I like the Edinburgh Princes Street Gardens photo’s which are all full of period interest. In the first photo’, C9010, with 47633, in large logo blue, on an up ballast train, on the 18th August, 1987, you have captured a really good portrait of the 47. With warmest regards, Rob.

tiger
The two 101s in C9018 and C9020 (set numbers 101360 and 101362) were unusual because they retained four end marker lights - most had the middle pair removed during refurbishment. It is a strange coincidence that they appear as consecutive pictures in your thead, Dave. This thread is always fabulous to view, but these Princes St Garden photos in resonate very strongly with me being so full of childhood/early teenage memories of the railway scene I grew up with in Edinburgh. Thanks for posting them. Cheers Tom (now in Sydney, Australia). Edited May 23, 2019 by tiger
RMweb Gold Popular Post DaveF Posted May 24, 2019 Author RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted May 24, 2019 (edited) The Blyth and Tyne again today, near Blyth(!), at South Newsham and Morpeth. The first photo is taken from a Brtannia Airways Boeing 737 en route from Salzburg to Newcastle Airport. For those who know the area identification of the railways and their remains will be easy. For everyone else, Blyth is in the top left hand corner, the Alcan terminal and its branch is on the far side of the harbour, about halfway along the wing (marked A on the photo). Seaton Sluice is at F The Blyth and Tyne in use today runs from B past C round a very sharp curve to D and on to the ECML at Benton Quarry Junction. C is the site of Hartley station, Just above B is South Newsham crossing. The Avenue branch, to Monkseaton ran from C to E and beyond. F is close to the site of the terminus at Collywell Bay (never opened), the line went past G on its way to Monkseaton. Those with old maps may be able to find more things of railway interest. RMweb Gold Market65 Posted May 24, 2019 RMweb Gold Share Posted May 24, 2019 Hi, Dave. I like the Blyth and Tyne photo’s which are full of interest as always. The last photo’, C5305, at Morpeth with DB965326, in March, 1981, if correctly indentified by eastwestdivide, was I’m sure I’m right in saying, tested out on the York, Market Weighton to Beverley line after it’s closure the previous November before being sent to the Newcastle Division. Many such track machines were tested out on the former line during the latter half of the 1960’s before the track was lifted in c1970. RMweb Gold russ p Posted May 25, 2019 RMweb Gold Share Posted May 25, 2019 Great pictures again David Quite rare to the the integral tail lamps in use on the mk3 sleepers. I believe all mk3Bs have them but very rarely if ever used especially on day stock Mk4s have them too on all vehicles. I've used them odd times on the northern belle 2

RMweb Gold Market65 Posted May 25, 2019 RMweb Gold Share Posted May 25, 2019 Hi, Dave. I like the Newcastle photo’s which are all full of interest. In C9317, with a class 101 DMU on a Newcastle to Hexham service, on the 14th November, 1987, you can see how weary looking the cab end is with various things showing that should not really have been visible. RMweb Gold Market65 Posted May 26, 2019 RMweb Gold Share Posted May 26, 2019 Hi, Dave. I like the Nene Valley Railway photo’s which show the varied stock on the railway at the time of the photo’s. In J7369, at Orton Mere, with Britannia, 70000, Britannia, May, 1981, you can see the front of the 4COR EMU. It’s good to see it in the photo’, and I hope it is still around today somewhere.
