Yes it's a fantastic layout and have seen it a few times at exhibitions. Will you be adding a shed or any buildings to the area?

Probably a shed of some sort (scratchbuilt) and some refueling points, signal box, coach washers and offices.  Still in the planning stage at the moment, might change some it.

Richard, enjoying the new yard construction here and on YouTube. You have inspired me to continue work on my N Scale layout. Sometimes it just seems so daunting! But then I see you JUST DOING IT! Also I see you using Woodland Scenics products which is located just 100 miles away from my hometown. You should send them pictures of some of your work (if they are not already aware of it!).

Hi Richard

After seeing your video myself on youtube I decided to use two ideas of yours

The magnets under the track to decouple the kadee couplings

And using cork as a bed for the track, not that I haven't seen the idea before but have decided to do it this time

These Ideas will be used on a future layout that I will be starting on soon

I hope you don't mind

Keep us all posted on your progress not that you could do much in this heat in the loft anyway

Shaun

That is a thing of great beauty. A nice silky V8 rather than the 6 cylinder - judging by the engine rocker/cam covers? Were the V8's overhead cam or pushrods? Either way a very nice looking job. Well done.

Very close, its a '59 El Camino (Impala pickup truck).

. . . . really puts a smile on your face.

And a big hole in the pocket when you fill the fuel tank no doubt even if it will turn many heads as you drive past :jester:

Now the weather has cooled down a bit I've been busy on the new sidings again.  All the electrics are complete and I've started the first bit of scenery.  I've made a start on the track detail and have just finished the first bit of ballasting.  Had a go at adding some point rodding using the wills kit.  Very fiddly but it certainly looks the part.

Plenty more detail to add after the ballast has dried.

Love the idea of getting that old signal box in there as the box for the yard!

Obviously very prototypical, especially on areas such as yards where modernisation wasn't heard of! There are even areas of today's network which still incorporate interlocking frames.

A very nice touch, looking forward to seeing the rest of the scenic work!

Decided I wasn't happy with the 3mm leds.  So I've swapped them out for smd ones and the difference is huge.  Light spread is much better now and they actually look scale rather than the somewhat oversize 3mm leds.

Thanks Guys.  The signal box is the one that I used to have over by the station.  Really happy with how things are coming along.  I've made some more progress with ballast, point rodding and have started on some buffer stops.

Hi Richard,

Just watched your video on the refueling point, some lovely work, really like the scratchbuilt fueling points and all the little details. As you say, the world and his dog have used the Knightwing kits, so it's great to see something different. I do like the attention to detail you have in deciding what goes where and more importantly why.

Could I just say, that I am a little surprised by your choice of ground cover. I would not expect to see discrete ballast in this sort of siding, it's much more likely to be the fine compacted ash ballast which nearly covers the sleeper tops, and maybe even concrete hardstanding actually where the fueling points themselves are.

a bit like this, only less rural:

Very cool, but not the coolest Ive seen, the coolest El Camino I saw was the one with Gene Hackman in :), The El Camino is my favorite US car and my Daughter loves the 68 Impala. Great work with the car love it.

We've finished restoring it now.  Fantastic to drive, really puts a smile on your face.
