'CHARD
Noting the discussion about inter city services for Scotland did not the push pull units work services away from Glasgow Edinburgh axis / The diagrams increased to include Dundee and Aberdeen when the 47/7 and push-pull fleet was extended. The 47/7 diagrams ended up pretty much as the proposed Seven Cities services are intended by TS. With the exception that the Edinburgh - Glasgow shuttle will be electrified. peak experience
I for one, look forward to the day when a HST will pick me up at Kildonen and drop me off at Altnabreac.
Christopher125
I for one, look forward to the day when a HST will pick me up at Kildonen and drop me off at Altnabreac. It's a nice idea but what I've seen suggests HSTs will be for the 'Scotrail Intercity' services - 158s look likely to continue on the Far North. The HSTs are for the Seven Cities routes, excluding Edinburgh - Glasgow.

westie7
Good thing about the now standard Transport Scotland Saltire Livery, is no matter who has the franchise we dont have multiple reliveries. Including some stock never even getting the new livery before the end of contract. Not quite sure how far away they are with getting it all in Saltire Livery

Christopher125
Some interesting details in the 'press briefing' found here: - HSTs will indeed receive power doors - 158 fleet will be refurbished - 156 fleet refreshed and continue to be used on Stranraer and Carlisle/Dumfries services - the 7 321s heading to Scotland at the end of next year will be used on Glasgow suburban services - Hourly high speed service between Inverness and Perth (and on to either Glasgow or Edinburgh) by 2019 Chris

westie7
Some interesting details in the 'press briefing' found here: Chris SO the idea behind "Scenic Coaches" will be 158s with every table lined up with a window and no airline seats. That'll disappoint those who thought they were on about see-thru roofs a la Canadian Pacific

That'll disappoint those who thought they were on about see-thru roofs a la Canadian Pacific Sure will disappoint some but there may have to be more sets used on these lines as our Kyle trains are very busy in the summer months as it is so by lining up tables with windows will lead to a reduced capacity on a 2car set. Whether it's four cars or sets split and remarshaled as 3's we'll have to wait and see.
scorpion
where did this fanciful observation coach business come from?, everything official I have seen points to existing stock with the seats aligned with the windows its just a dream to think there will be Swiss or Canadian style glass roofed stock, get real

Jim Martin
Or indeed, just about anything other than the EMT "Sardines revenge" refurb. 158s currently working the service. :-( A good contender for the worst post-privitisation interior (although FGWs HSTs, Voyagers and Bendyleanos are strong contenders also). Different strokes, and all that: I think the refurbed interiors on the EMT 158s are very good. Jim

That'll disappoint those who thought they were on about see-thru roofs a la Canadian Pacific Says something when what should be the ordinary, standard seating layout for anything beyond commuter trains is being promoted as a feature. Different strokes, and all that: I think the refurbed interiors on the EMT 158s are very good. The last time I was on an EMT 158 (a couple of years ago) the legroom was appalling, into budget airline territory. Very uncomfortable when there's no room to move the legs sideways. Christopher125
Some potentially good news for the WHL - Abellio apparently intend to operate a daily Edinburgh-Fort William service loco-hauled during the week with HSTs at the weekend for 'most' of the year. It's also being reported that refurbished 158s will have 88% of seats arranged around tables. Chris

As has also been said its how it "should" be not a novelty ☺
