31002 must have been a fave, for a trip to the SR.

I got this pic in Hither Green on 8-5-75

I've never really been a fan of the 31's as a design, but when this rather wonderful-looking machine visited the KWVR for a gala a few years ago, I was sold, at least on this loco in the research livery; still need to add a model of it to my collection...  Seen heading for Keighley, near Damems. 31163, 6th May '19.

Whilst on the subject of preservation, the Golden Ochre 31 at Loughborough has been an attraction for years. It is D5830, not D5579 which was the original for BR in the early 60's.

A view here from their 2012 Diesel Gala. Click on the picture for details, and there are more views in the Flickr album referenced to the right of the text.

So it's true then - the excitement of replacing the final Mirrlees power unit with an EE lump in the first-built Brush Type 2 thus concluding the re-engining programme resulted in the fitment of windscreen washers and shields being overlooked! 🤔🤭

Old pics, locations generally unknown [thanks Pilotman], dates some time in the 80's!

Skipton station car park in the 80's - the siding has gone to extend the car park so no more loco parking!
