RMweb Gold Popular Post NHY 581 Posted July 29, 2022 Author RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted July 29, 2022 (edited) Evening all, With the Minehead show a week tomorrow, I took the opportunity to tweak the fiddle yard which can be fitted to Bleat Wharf/ Sheep Dip. A small shelf was added above the two roads and we are pretty much there or thereabouts. Next job is that of checking the locos over followed by the usual hoover and track clean. Rob. RMweb Gold Popular Post NHY 581 Posted July 30, 2022 Author RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted July 30, 2022 (edited) Morning all. This weekend marks twelve months since the sad passing of Mick Bonwick, a friend not only to the thread but to many members of RMweb and to the wider community. Mick was not only a very fine modeller but some one who gave freely of his time and knowledge both here on the forum but also at various exhibitions, including SWAG. He is perhaps best known for his course work at Missenden Abbey where he shared his weathering expertise via his much sought after weathering courses. Here's a close up of one of his projects. I feel very privileged to have been able to 'chat' with Mick and not only compare weathering notes but benefit from his common sense approach to life in general and of course enjoy his fine sense of humour which was right up this sheep's street. This then is an image of the Bachmann C Class weathered by Mick which I was able to acquire and is a much treasured memento. And this is how he did it..... https://www.missendenrailwaymodellers.org.uk/index.php/virtual-missenden-weathering-session/ Mick also had an 'interest' in Land Rovers which led many of us on here to surprise him with our own weathered examples which were delivered to him, en masse, by Kevin of Little Muddle fame. Here's my contribution which was a pleasure to do by way of a small token of thanks for Mick's many contributions to all things sheepy. RMweb Gold Popular Post Gilbert Posted July 30, 2022 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted July 30, 2022 (edited) Cheers Rob I knew Mick well and was working with him on various Missenden tasks when he sadly died. I could post so many examples of his work but here are just two that are a bit more personal to me. Here's one of his Landrovers on my layout Lockdown Fen: and a joint project... - during one of our last weekends at Missenden together Mick needed a victim to use for some fading techniques. I had an ex_LMS full brake in my "to do" pile so Mick did the fading and I finished the rest of the weathering. Definitely a keeper... RMweb Premium Gedward Posted July 30, 2022 RMweb Premium Share Posted July 30, 2022 The timing of this is perfect! Mick's work is on another level as the images show. I'm just about to purchase my first 0 gauge loco. An 87xx Pannier with sound from Minerva. And I've recently been studying anything and everything about weathering locos. And watching Mick's video has given me all the info and answers all the questions. I've never been afraid to wipe off and start again when oil painting and this is no different. 7 1

RMweb Gold NHY 581 Posted August 3, 2022 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted August 3, 2022 Evening all, Well, the locos destined to travel to Minehead have been cleaned and checked this afternoon. Four locos will be heading West. A 4F, 3F , Grahame's Pannier and a Jinty.. Stock has also been checked and all are packed ready to go. The trophy won by Mutton in 2019 has been engraved to that effect and polished accordingly as well. I need to replace a LED light that's gone. ( the first one to fail since I started using them in 2016) Not too shabby as it's one of Herr Lidl's finest and has been in place since 2018. Clean track and then hoover the layout. Check Sheep One over and we're good to go. Rob. 14

RMweb Gold NHY 581 Posted August 4, 2022 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted August 4, 2022 Morning Chris, It's a nice, friendly show in a lovely part of the country. I'm as much looking forward to the drive down as to the show itself ! That said, it seems like there's a pretty good line up there, including demos by Gordon and Maggie Gravett. I hope you've notified Sheep One insurers about all this extra mileage your clocking up on her. Poor thing she'll be absolutely knackered by the end of the year. You may make certain she's got some lovely lush green grass to nibble on. A concerned follower.
RMweb Gold NHY 581 Posted August 4, 2022 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted August 4, 2022 Bonjour Winners, Sheep 1 is a bit long in the tooth, truth be told. Rest assured, I shall be giving her a nice oil change/ new spark plugs on our return as well as a new exhaust as she is sounding as if she's developing a bit of a 'sore throat' ( much to the amusement of NHY minor who refered to me as an 'old boy racer' when we went to Larkrail ) On a positive, I've now honed the loading of Bleat Wharf and reduced the amount of crap............sorry, vital equipment, required to operate Bleat when away from home. This no longer requires the removal of all seats other than the driver's seat to load said cra........vital equipment ( Taunton RailEx 2019 ) Rob. 4 1

Don't want to have to report you to the RSA for cruelty. Removable seats. Hmm hadn't tried that with Maisy Victoria although I don't think she would like it but it'll certainly help when bringing the bacon home. Off to walk DD and see what things have happened in BBW that's the Big Bad World by the way.

RMweb Gold Popular Post NHY 581 Posted August 7, 2022 Author RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted August 7, 2022 Morning all, A grand day out ! The Exmoor Coast Railway modellers put on a cracking event. A warm welcome was received and it was a real pleasure to be part of the show. My thanks to Chris (Gilbert of the parish) and his team of Bill and Tim V for their help with my erection due a somewhat late arrival at the show, their attention throughout the day and to Tim for taking over at lunchtime. I must also extend my thanks to the unknown driver of the well loaded 07 registered black estate car whose insistence on maintaining 30mph for the length of the A39 between Nether Stowey and Minehead ( irrespective of the actual speed limit) allowed me so much time to take in the views......... Arriving at the show about an hour later than anticipated ( see above plus usual sport on M5 ) gave me the opportunity to demonstrate how quick Bleat could be up and running. Roughly twenty minutes, just in time for doors open. Bleat went well all told but I actually seemed to do little running as I was always chatting, answering questions and generally catching up with chums. In particular, absolutely splendid to finally meet George ( Gedward ) and to catch up with Alex and Liz ( Mr and Mrs Wiggoforgold. Hopefully I'll back next year maintaining a ovine presence..... RMweb Premium Gedward Posted August 7, 2022 RMweb Premium Share Posted August 7, 2022 ‘Twas a grand day out, so it was. Rob’s photos are great and DO, do it justice but… seeing it up close shows just how well the colours and textures blend together. To make such a realistic and harmonious masterpiece in such a small space. 5 1
Winslow Boy
Are we talking about Rob or his excellent piece of muddling? I'm asking on behalf of a friend you see as they've never seen a sheep like Rob before. Glad to hear that a good time was had by you both.
