EddieB
Amazing how the Swiss manage to get 60 years of service out of an electric loco (AE3/6i) but we can't get anything like that! Keith No doubt down to the way the Swiss maintain their locomotives - Swiss depots are models of cleanliness, tidiness and attention to detail. Of course it probably helped that the Swiss were pioneers of railway electrification too - such that they had numbers of older locomotives available to remain in service. The Germans also had smaller numbers of pre-Reichsbahn electrics that approached similar lengths of service.

RMweb Gold DaveF Posted June 4, 2017 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted June 4, 2017 Today we visit Kussnacht am Rigi, which is on the line from Arth Goldau to Luzern. It is the first station west of Immensee which we visited recently. When I took the photos most of the trains from Luzern which were going to travel over the Gotthard went this way, even though the line is single track. Nowadays many of these trains travel via Rotkreuz, but the line still has a local service. The photos may prove useful to modellers as most of the photos are of the buildings. Class 74
@Interlaken West back in 1988... Ahhhhh, Dave, wonderful! I was there as well and was standing for hours watching trains between Bern and Thun. Some very interesting compositions that time with German, Austrian and even French (!!!) electrics running regular trains. This was the BLS 75 year jubilee, great stuff! eastwestdivide
Classic bird's eye view of Andermatt, from the train or the road? They both wiggle up the hill, while the footpath is a bit more direct, but steeper - a few years back, I walked up from Andermatt to the next station, paused for ice cream, and carried on to Oberalppass. Fantastic.
