RMweb Gold DaveF Posted April 22, 2017 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted April 22, 2017 (edited) I didn't know there had been a standard gauge line at Drei Annen Hohne. The things you learn on RMweb. It was a part of the Rübeland Bahn (formerly Halberstadt-Blankenburger Eisenbahngesellschaft (HBE)) which runs from Blankenburg to Elbingerode (and Königshütte - out of use). The section to Drei Annen Hohne ran from a junction west of Elbingerode. It closed on 1st December 1965. Other sources say in 1964. Below are a few bits on the web about the HBE. All of them seem OK, my antivirus produced no warnings. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Drei_Annen_Hohne_station http://www.harzlife.de/eisenbahn/ruebelandbahn.html http://www.volksstimme.de/nachrichten/lokal/wernigerode/605435_Fast-vergessen-vor-125-Jahren-hat-die-Eisenbahn-Tanne-erreicht.html It also ran beyond Königshütte to Tanne at one time. There is a trackplan of Drei Annen Hohne as it was in 1912, but no further details, in Die Harzer Scmalspurbahnen, Zieglgänsberger and Roper, transpress 199 ISBN 3-613-71103-6 David Edited April 23, 2017 by DaveF

Not easy to read. Keith I think that is correct. A little further on the line to Schierke and Brocken becomes 33 per 1000, Schierke is 150m higher than Drei Annen Hohne. According to the author, Abzweigung Wechsel to DAH closed at the winter 1964 timetable change, which seems a bit vague as he gives a precise date of 1:11:68 for closure of the Königshütte to Tanne section. eastwestdivide
That SOB location above Arth Goldau seems to be a favourite of yours. When travelling the SOB line all the way from Romanshorn to Arth a few years back, I was quite impressed by the switchback route, even if it's not on the scale of some of the better-known Swiss routes. eastwestdivide
Amazing variation in rolling stock height in that last selection, from the tiny shunter to the centre-cab locos which are a fair bit higher than the single-deck coaches, but still lower than the double-deckers. Rather like the Lima N gauge I used to have, where the nose end of their Deltic was about the same height as a Mk1 coach roof!
