  2. I believe that the Glos & Warks has a section of CWR, in part to reduce the noise where it is running through a residential area (which may post date BR's closure of the route). Adrian
  3. Many years ago we had a dog which was basically border collie, but several other things had "gone in the pot" over the years. On one occasion, someone next door started to play the bagpipes and he joined in. Adrian
  4. But there was a bit that was LNER. However, going back to mon capitains point, might I suggest that he lies down in a darkened room for an hour or two listening to a recording of the sound of inoffensive panniers hard at work. Adrian
  5. That's what I like about this forum, where else would you find a wombat playing a crumhorn. I think we need a video of it. Adrian
  6. I don't use unread content, but I did start getting the template error today. Adrian
  7. I've seen this several times this evening, is it just me ? Hitting back seems to work OK, but the thread gets marked as read. Adrian
  8. Reading the March 2021 edition of Steam Days, on page 24 there is an odd (to me) signal, or rather an odd attachment to it. The picture is at Guisborough. Attached to the post is a large diamond, possible 3ft along each edge, probably white in colour, in the centre of which is another diamond, possibly black about the same size as the signal post, and it looks as though there is a light next to it. This board is in line with the track (i.e. at right angles to the signal arm), and is on the track side of the post. Any suggestions as to what it might be ? Adrian
  9. Have we had this one before ? https://film.iwmcollections.org.uk/record/2170?fbclid=IwAR3c4T2y-nOMfC-QfJqZ0hBJLdNZvyuhNHx2depzbNlQgWYAul0mzgIkhb0 Newmarket in 1944. Adrian
  10. Sorry I can't help on that, but the barges stopped running there sometime around 1974/5. Adrian
  11. The accompanying map suggests that there are no run round loops, so propelling would make sense. Annoyingly, I used to live a handful of miles away from there, but at the time I was only knee high to the proverbial, so wouldn't have been allowed to go and investigate it. By the time I was old enough, the railway had closed, and we've moved away. Adrian
  12. Agreed, although the wagons look as though they are loaded. Adrian
  13. Or one like this : a 3D printed L shaped, L sectioned frame. It gives you a firm square corner that you can work into. I was inspired by a picture of Justin Newitt's where he uses alloy angle. Adrian
  14. The barges were almost certainly supplying Skelton Grange power station (SE corner of Leeds). IIRC when the contract finished they were sold to somewhere in West Africa (Nigeria ?). In the background is one of the pusher tugs and a set of pans, as mentioned by Dolium. Adrian
  15. Perhaps they are forwarded to Didcot on the afternoon mail coach. Adrian
  16. Not a level crossing, but there was an article in this morning's Telegraph about warming up before exercise. The accompanying photo showed someone standing on the common crossing of a turnout. Adrian
  17. Wow, that's a blast from the past. I remember seeing them working to Thornhill and back (but never loading). Shortly after she was retired in 1975, several of us took Ethel for a trip up to York and back. After that she went to the museum at Ellesmere Port, but I think all that remains of her now is the engine. Pity we can't see the name of the one that is loading. Adrian
  18. WhatsApp is a part of the Facebook empire, and so is firmly in that mess that is antisocial media. Adrian
  19. And don't forget the Keighley and Worth Valley and the Wensleydale railways. Adrian
  20. A switch on a rack railway, that isn't exactly straightforward to use when you want to change direction. Adrian
  21. Good job we don't have motorways without hard shoulders these days. Oh, hang on ... Adrian
