  1. repeat until cows_come_home "I do not need a Manor" However, given my location, perhaps 7840 will live after all
  2. In addition to the match being abandoned, and the entire team suspended for the remainder of the season. That might just concentrate a few minds. Adrian
  3. I'm aware of a butcher who makes Pork and Marmite sausages, and can confirm that they are rather scrumptious. Adrian
  4. Oddly enough, a former colleague bought a hybrid, and he promptly became known as Ernie. Being rather wet behind the ears, someone had to explain it to him. Adrian
  5. P & O. When visiting Toddington many years ago, I was wandering around the shed, and one of the P&O team invited me to climb up and have a look. At the time the boiler was out, so it was possible to stand on the frames where the boiler would normally be. Adrian
  6. Perhaps it is. It looks as though there is a hole in the platform just behind the crane, and next to that hole is what looks like a door. Is it possible that is where a wagon could be backed in for loading, and if so, it might be useful on occasions to be able to crane a load onto the (road) wagon, either from a railway wagon, or from the platform. Out of interest, where was the picture taken ? Adrian
  7. Oh yes. 34050 Royal Observer Corps Adrian
  8. Twenty years or so ago, I was using an ISP that supplied email addresses for its customers. Knowing that at some future point in time, I might want/need to change ISP, and the problems that would cause, I got myself a domain name. Whilst I've only changed ISP once since then, the email hosting has changed three times, and apart from a momentary delay, it has been painless. bear@polybear.co.uk ? Adrian
  9. I've still got two. A normal length one (12"), and a half length one. The latter lives in the car so that I can convert those funny litre numbers that the filling station insists on using into proper English Gallons. Adrian
  10. :-( You may suggest anything you like. 34066 Spitfire - various family connections. Adrian
  11. 34050 Royal Observer Corps for me. Adrian
  12. Very nice, and I like the name. Adrian
  13. Thanks for the detailed explanation. "Phew, I do go on a bit, don't I?" No (well not in this case). It might have been a simple question, but not necessarily a simple answer. Adrian
  14. A question I keep meaning to ask, but never remember to. How are you planing on routing the droppers to the track for the power, or is the viaduct short enough to be able to do so via the baseboard at each end ? Adrian
  15. When I was knee high to the proverbial grasshopper, I was taken on a bus trip to Hardcastle Crags. At one point, we all had to get off and walk as the bus wasn't powerful enough to get up the hill with the passengers on board. Adrian
  16. They are along side a canal, not a river (the river is the to left of the canal). I suspect that if they tried to raise the canal level that much, it would have overflowed in a number of places. I have seen pictures of barges being dragged out into a field, but that was late 1960s / early 70s so some form of mechanical winch or tractor would have been used. The barges in question had reached the end of their working lives, and were set on fire. Adrian
  17. Report it to the mods (the ... link at the top right of the post), and ask them to move it to where you want it. Adrian
  18. A few years ago, someone at work was looking for suggestions for a new vehicle. From the requirements list, a couple of us concluded that what he needed was a Land Rover 101 FC. IIRC he ended up with a mundeo estate. Adrian
  19. Over a period of 20 years, between Dad and myself, we had 3 SWBs (2 * IIA and 1 III). All had FWHs (and overdrive), and I don't recall having any problem with them. Apart from welding, most of the maintenance work was done "in house". Adrian
  20. Was the Warren Branch built by the GWR, or acquired by them at a later stage. If the latter, then structures could have been built by the Warren Railway Company to whatever design suited them. Figworthy was built by the West Of England Railway Company, but was taken over by the GWR when they ran out of money. Adrian
  21. Designs for 3D printing are available for download. Adrian
  22. Reminds me of some one (sadly no longer with us) I used to know who was a RAF navigator, often on the regular run from Brize Norton to the states. On one occasion the east coast of the states was weather bound, so they had to put into Bermuda instead. They were stuck there for several days. Adrian
  23. Lunesters may (or may not) be interested in watching a programme that was on BBC4 this evening (5/1). Winter Walks (one of a short series). This one was in Dentdale, and finished at Dent Railway Station (although it was described as a Train Station). Apart from the scenery as they moved up the dale from Dent itself, there was a short drone shot of Arten Gill viaduct, and it ended with a shot of what looked more like Dent Head viaduct. For those in the UK, it is no doubt available via i-Player. Adrian
  24. If I recall correctly, the Ffestiniog were running on oil in the late 70s. Adrian
