  1. That explains why he ended up in the wrong place.
  2. ... and why the incompetents who should have done that have not been sacked.
  3. I don't like the look of those screws you are using to hold the track in place. I suggest you use 3/8" (9.7 mm) x No.0 wood screws, available from Modelfixings.
  4. Have you asked at your local library for Hugh Martin, "Benjamin Keach, Pioneer of Congregational Hymn Singing" (London, 1961) J.R. Watson, "The English Hymn, a Critical and Historical Study" (Oxford: Clarendon Press, 1997). You might like to look at the ODNB.
  5. If you are a football fan and a train spotter you can combine both hobbies at this ground in Slovakia. Nixon was quite a popular singer? You are kidding me.
  6. Why is the king shaking hands with that a*sehole?
  7. You could use Kadee 118 or 119 "shelf" couplers, but these are not NEM fitted, so you would have to find some way of fitting the Kadee draft gear box.
  8. I agree. Especially Collett GWR non-gangwayed stock.
  9. OK, sorry. It's a but early for me; I don't normally get going until midday (at least that's my excuse).
  10. How do you get the generous discount? I've got a 71 on order from Kernow, and I tried to order a 74 from them but it came up at the full price.
  11. Shouldn't a yellow Hornby 0-4-0 tank be called "Connie"?
  12. Yes. I used a small screwdriver to lever the keeper plate of the bogie off, then I pulled the outer axle out by holding the wheels firmly between finger and thumb and rolling gently towards the middle of the bogie. Then I gently rolled the new axle back into place, ensuring the bearings are sat in the correct place and the pickups bear on the back of the wheels. Then the keeper plate is replaced, making sure that the dummy third-rail pickups are towards the middle of the car, and pressing firmly until a click is heard or felt.
  13. I like seeing those pictures of Australian railway models. I like those eclectic parrots as well.
  14. I've just opened the boxes and got my S8 running. Changing the axle to the one with traction tyres, and installing the decoders were simple. I'm beginning to wish I had bought a couple of lighting sets from Train-Tech on Saturday. Incidentally, I was wondering what address people who have chipped their S-class have used. I used 8788, because the model is of cars with running numbers ending in 87 and 88.
  15. Yes, I was on it, in the first coach. Very enjoyable.
  16. Nobody expects the Spanish Inquisition ... (sorry)
  17. Or maybe you could come to an arrangement with somebody who wants the RTR chassis but not the body.
  18. As for the baseboard, I'd use plywood.
  19. The Battle of Trafalgar. Nelson at Trafalgar in 2015 Nelson: "Order the signal, Hardy." Hardy: "Aye, aye sir." Nelson: "Hold on, this isn't what I dictated to Flags. What's the meaning of this?" Hardy: "Sorry sir?" Nelson (reading aloud): “England expects every person to do his or her duty, regardless of race, gender, sexual orientation, religious persuasion or disability.' - What gobbledygook is this for God's sake?" Hardy: "Admiralty policy, I'm afraid, sir. We're an equal opportunities employer now. We had the devil's own job getting “ England " past the censors, lest it be considered racist." Nelson: "Gadzooks, Hardy. Hand me my pipe and tobacco." Hardy: "Sorry sir. All naval vessels have now been designated smoke-free working environments." Nelson: "In that case, break open the rum ration. Let us splice the main brace to steel the men before battle." Hardy: "The rum ration has been abolished, Admiral. Its part of the Government's policy on binge drinking.." Nelson: "Damn it man! We are on the eve of the greatest sea battle in history. We must advance with all dispatch. Report from the crow's nest, please." Hardy: "That won't be possible, sir." Nelson: "What?" Hardy: "Health and Safety have closed the crow's nest, sir. No harness; and they said that rope ladders don't meet regulations. They won't let anyone up there until proper scaffolding can be erected." Nelson: "Then get me the ship's carpenter without delay, Hardy." Hardy: "He's busy knocking up a wheelchair access to the foredeck Admiral." Nelson: "Wheelchair access? I've never heard anything so absurd." Hardy: "Health and safety again, sir. We have to provide a barrier- free environment for the differently abled." Nelson: "Differently abled? I've only one arm and one eye and I refuse even to hear mention of the word. I didn't rise to the rank of admiral by playing the disability card." Hardy: "Actually, sir, you did. The Royal Navy is under- represented in the areas of visual impairment and limb deficiency." Nelson: "I've never heard such infamy. Break out the cannon and tell the men to stand by to engage the enemy." Hardy: "The men are a bit worried about shooting at anyone, Admiral." Nelson: "What? This is mutiny!" Hardy: "It's not that, sir. It's just that they're afraid of being charged with murder if they actually kill anyone. There are a couple of legal-aid lawyers on board, watching everyone like hawks." Nelson: "Then how are we to sink the Frenchies and the Spanish?" Hardy: "Actually, sir, we're not." Nelson: "We're not?" Hardy: "No, sir. The French and the Spanish are our European partners now. According to the Common Fisheries Policy, we shouldn't even be in this stretch of water. We could get hit with a claim for compensation." Nelson: "But you must hate a Frenchman as you hate the devil." Hardy: "I wouldn't let the ship's diversity coordinator hear you saying that sir. You'll be up on disciplinary report." Nelson: "You must consider every man an enemy, who speaks ill of your King." Hardy: "Not any more, sir. We must be inclusive in this multicultural age. Now put on your Kevlar vest; it's the rules. It could save your life" Nelson: "Don't tell me - Health and Safety. Whatever happened to rum, s0d0my and the lash?" Hardy: As I explained, sir, rum is off the menu! And there's a ban on corporal punishment." Nelson: "What about s0d0my?" Hardy: "I believe that is now legal, sir." Nelson: "In that case ................ Kiss me, Hardy."
  20. I'm wondering about all this criticism of manufacturers who seem to take "too long" to release previously announced models. If this sort of thing continues I can see said manufacturers not announcing anything until it is ready for release. Maybe that's what people want, but I'd rather know what's in the pipeline.
  21. Is it irregular? I thought all words ending in -fa have plurals in -feydd
  22. Mine arrived at 11:15, but I was asleep. So I'll have to collect it from the sorting office tomorrow.
  23. I ordered some stuff from Hattons late on Saturday and it was delivered yesterday. I'm not complaining.
