  1. Much smaller than a cigarette. On a previous layout I had signals operated by reed switches and they were in a glass cylinder approx 20mm long by 2mm diameter and fitted between the rails.
  2. Nice 'might have been' story. The convenience of 16.5 mm track both sides of the water is a lot easier than dealing with the different gauges of 5ft 3" and the narrow gauge 4' 8.5" 😀
  3. 265178_a839ee26-16c4-407d-bd5b-327ce0e067f5.pdfLink to Ireland's all island strategic rail review. https://www.gov.ie/en/consultation/4d4f2-all-island-strategic-rail-review-public-consultation-for-strategic-environment-assessment/#documents Interested members of the public can send submissions to strategicrailreview@arup.com The deadline for receipt of submissions as part of this public consultation is 11.59pm on Friday 29 September 2023
  4. I use ID backscenes attached direct to the drywall of the room, and I also unintentionally ended up with it at an angle. However it didn't matter because I only use the 'scenic' part of the backscene and not the sky. To avoid joins in the sky and also non matching clouds I paint a sky direct onto the drywall and then having carefully cut out the 'scenic' lower part of the backscene, attach this. Now the only joint is where backscenes meet and strategically placed trees or buildings hide the join. This technique has also allowed me to use two ID backscenes together that don't actually match. Edited to add picture. Can you see the join?
  5. My bad. I don't know why your last paragraph didn't register when I read your post. We are both saying the same thing.
  6. So what about a microphone up front and speakers in the coaches.😁 Hat, coat, running out of the room fast...... lol PS, or a sound chip.... don't need the steam loco. Steam, Deltics etc on request to the conductor.
  7. My suggestion states "coach that meets modern standards, but looks like....." So if coach meets modern standards then safety is fine. Nothing to prevent a modern build coach from "looking like" it is made of wood even if it isn't.
  8. If considering new build heritage coaches, why anything as recent as a Mk1 lookalike? How about a brand new coach that meets modern standards, but looks like say, a big four coach, or even a pre group coach? Just thinking outside the box.
  9. The RPSI acquired a fleet of Mk2s twenty years ago in 2003 with some more over the years up to 2015. These were retrofitted with electronic door locks etc in compliance with modern railway requirements. They have been painted in RPSI green livery which is based on the UTA livery that was used in the last days of steam up to 1970. These coaches are used for steam tours on the NIR and Irish Rail systems. Pictures are on the first link. (Scroll past the locomotives) The second link is a list giving details of the fleet. https://www.steamtrainsireland.com/rpsi-collection https://www.steamtrainsireland.com/stocklist-carriages-north
  10. Credit where credit is due. I received excellent customer service from KR Models. I informed them that I was missing one staunchion from one of my Palbrick wagons and I requested a replacement. I was expecting an envelope with a spare staunchion, but instead KR Models sent another complete wagon. Many thanks KR MODELS.
  11. Thanks Nigel. That is helpful. I have a ZTC which I like, but is limited in what it will do and I am considering getting the Z21. You have confirmed that my idea of using the ZTC in slave mode, as a Z21 handset is indeed possible.
  12. @adb968008 a lot of useful comments there. May I suggest an email to KR Models and see what happens!
  13. Unless you mean General Motors. Perhaps this should be in the "When the prototype looks like a model" thread. 😀
  14. After the 222000 will IRM be doing the 22000 class? 😁
  15. There is a prototype for lighting all wrong 😂
  16. What's wrong with a five day weekend? 😁
