  1. I always thought that the last couple of years of steam rather melancholy, thank goodness though. for the photographers who recorded that period, To me, my time was 1958-1961 when us innocents thought that steam would be around for years to come. Yes. 10000/1. D1-D10 with their beautiful names, DELTIC, the Western hydraulics were grand machines............But were only additional to the Stanier/Bullied/Gresley/Collet engines that we loved and were reasonably cared for in that period. Wish I could re-live that time again. Mike
  2. Wow, just come across this, fantastic layout, great workmanship, beautiful detail, captures re the atmosphere just perfectly. Rgds...Mike
  3. This post absolutely reflects what the"consumer" requires from Hornby , the Engine Shed has shown the way for current and knowledgeable information that the enthusiast requires, it seems almost perverse that we return to the wait until we are ready to tell you situation, tell us what's coming when you are in the development stage, I for one want to know ASAP what's coming and what I have to budget for.I really don't care if it's some time off!! Mike
  4. I would love to see either especially the Tilbury............then again 6202 would be good!! , having said that, a couple of years ago I expressed a desire for 46256/7 and was laughed at...............look what happened!! although from a different colour box, hey you can never tell these days and I love it!! Mike
  5. How long did these last? It looks a cracker. Rgds.......Mike
  6. Thanks Mike, I should be the Worlds greatest expert on Stanier's Pacifics, I've got so many books on them!! Another one coming up then . I just love these engines. Thanks again for the heads up. Rgds.......Mike
  7. Just received my copy.........it is brilliant!!.........only one drawback for the modeler, which 10 days in any given year equates to the model you see in front of you!!! the permutations and the frequency of changes of detail are endless. I think I will remain a 1959 trainspotter and try to get things as right as possible in that year.. Mike
  8. Rob, your stuff is excellent.........please keep posting. Mike
  9. My first view of The Palatine was in late December 1958 at Derby, it was taking my great aunt Mary back to London, her parting gift was half a Crown which I spent on m first ABC. City of London in glorious BR maroon was on the front cover. Brit 70004, William Shakespeare was the train engine which I shamefully stood by, admiring her, rather than saying a proper goodbye to my aunt!!. Incidentally 45694 Bellerophon was on the down Devonian that evening, they passed, almost at the same time..........my first two cops!! Although I had seen 70000 and 70009 at Liverpool Street the previous Summer when visiting said aunt at Thundersley, Essex. I eventually went on to cop all of GER Brits except 70010 over the next couple of years. The sight and sound of them on Brentford bank was unforgettable. Mike
  10. Don't the red un's look so much better than them 'orrible green 'uns Sorry Tony.....wonderful layout Mike
  11. When I was 16, I weighed around 10 stone, I am 72 this year and weigh around 11 stone(the extra stone relates I believe to my intake, of Coopers Pale Ale!! ). At 16 I was slim with muscular legs through running, now my thighs look almost wasted,I still have exercise through work on our property but my body structure has changed quite significantly and I thought that my weight would do so too, but it hasn't really. I was a smoker for over 40 years. 50 a day until 14 years ago but then just stopped. Health issues according to my quack are, high cholesterol and blood pressure issues and a" fatty" liver due apparently to my beer intake around 1500 ml per day (4 stubbies ). I very rarely eat until evening except perhaps on the week end............what does one do?? I don't drink to get drunk, I just enjoy a couple of beers and glass or two of McLaren Vale red/white with a meal, sharing a bottle with my beautiful other half.....pure enjoyment, yet the medicos tell me to stop. don't do it Michael .I take the prescribed medication for the blood pressure/cholesterol issues and there have been positive changes but should one give up all pleasures(vices)? I have tried the Ultra light beers and persevered for about a month but really, it just tastes like cats pxss and I have reverted to my original diet............ I do want to live a bit longer, if only to see my Bachmann MR 0-44T . Rgds.........Mike
  12. An absolute Dick.........we could not believe this guy when we first arrived here.........but then Billy McMahon was the Prime Minister. This ain't political, just plain common sense. Unbelievable garbage we lived with then. Thank goodness our Aussie cricket team can restore some belief in our Land. Mike
  13. Man, you don't live on james track a 16 Km road between Inman Valley and Myponga...........a road between two councils who don't give a fXXX ..............in the Winter , axle breaking potholes, in the Summer bull dust axle deep.....................views are beautiful though Mike

  17. So do they still have the means to produce a Clan do you know Ian? because when I inquired about a year a ago the reply was that they had no plans in the near future, not that they were unable. I too have heard about the "lost tooling" but no-ones actually substantiated it as fact.Would love to get another one!! Rgds...Mike

  19. Do it mate!! I just almost lost a close friend whose cancer started in the colon discovered by a poo test, he ended up undergoing chemo, apparently very difficult, eventually had to have one of those bags because his arse had to be sown up, 12 months later he was diagnosed with liver cancer, it had spread. Half of his liver was removed, Ian told me the subsequent pain was unbearable, anyway he is still with us ............I hope for a long time. If he hadn't sent that bit of crap through the mail he probably would not he with us. Mike
