  1. I was brought up half a mile from the site of Middleton Station and crossed the former line on a daily basis going to secondary school. Will have to show my dad the photo next time I see him.
  2. Wakefield Kirkgate has to be one of the worst but also most fascinating. No photos sadly.
  3. Sort of on/off topic but remember watching these trains as a young teenager. Seemed normal of course but only with the passing of time does it feel like a very bygone era. https://www.chaddy-goods.co.uk/chadderton-goods-photos/the-chadderton-goods-branch-then-now/ Always a Gronk in my day.
  4. Every building in that shot has now gone to make way for HS2.
  5. Looks like two fish vans have been sunk in concrete up to the roof line.
  6. I guess he is now a freemason. Only time I see a briefcase these days are blokes going to the Grand Lodge near Covent Garden tube.
  7. Amazing it was still there in 2014. Big thanks for sharing that.
  8. This could be in a thread called A full sized mock up doesn't quite look like the real thing.
  9. Didn't know Loughborough was/is the home of Ladybird Books. Learn something everyday.
  10. For those interested in the Rail Blue corporate identity I highly recommend a copy of the British Rail Corporate Identity Manual. It's pricy, but very well done. They are also doing A1 limited edition screenprint of the 125 but thats even more expensive sadly. https://britishrailmanual.com
  11. Lots of nice views of 87035 on the BBC this morning. BBC News are in Crewe for election coverage and based in the Heritage Centre. Not sure if it was just for Breakfast or the whole day. Anyway worth a look and may appear on You Tube a some point.
  12. I too wondered about these engines and found the following on Wikipedia. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GWR_103_President
  13. Slightly off topic but just seen a Azuma set on the North London Line near Gospel Oak as EQ50 to Ferme Park. Appears to have come from Eastleigh EZ50 to Acton and wonder why sets are being sent down their.
  14. Thanks guys, that makes a lot of sense. I remember visiting the Exhibition train in the late 70's or early 80's at Manchester Piccadilly. Can't remember what exactly the exhibition was but it may have been communications related.
  15. Does anyone know why the mk1 brake in the above video at 8:10 has a white stripe along its length.
  16. That Van Sandwich is just missing the ham and pickle. :-)
  17. Great set of photo's and remind me how wonderful the railways are in Switzerland. I can feel a visit coming on in the next 12 months.
  18. The line from London Road to Altrincham was electrified earlier the the Woodhead line and according to the following Wikipedia entry were never connected. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Manchester,_South_Junction_and_Altrincham_Railway#1500_V_DC_electrification
  19. Peco forest back scene works well. Shame the track hasn't be laid through the centre of the tunnel though.
  20. Love the Manchester Victoria pictures, especially the photo of the platform11 bridge. The pair of 37's wouldn't have been seen in my day (80-83) next to the Bury platforms, usually a Class 128 Parcels van would be in there.
  21. A bit of weekend engineering work on the outdoors patio railway. Relaid a small amount of track which was a little worse for wear after 8 years out doors. Also repainted the roofs of the Bachmann Art Deco platform buildings.  As work is more advance than planned will re-open for Sunday services tomorrow.

  22. How many Pine Bonsai trees are going to be felled to fill the timber wagons. Could wipe out the worlds supply, shame as I can't think of any other way to get real timber at OO scale. Suspect these will be very popular although not my era.
