  1. Managed to get the last centre headcode blue 40 (371-182) from Arcadia, happy chappy. It is speaker fitted so I just need to purchase the Next18 sound chip from youchoos and away I go. I can add a disc 40 when it arrives in March, will have to think if I go Bachmann sound or youchoos on that one. Having looked at the hacking to get a speaker into a 24 or 25 I will leave them silent.
  2. Unless we can make magnetic resonance work. https://thewirelesssolution.co.uk/blogs/information/what-is-resonant-charging-and-how-does-it-differ-from-inductive
  3. Lets hope RevolutioN don't announce the same thing on Facebook It's a interesting prototype and right up there with something only Rapido would think of. I am sure I can justify one if I stretch Rule #1
  4. Until the RAIB report it's probably best not to blame machines - it could yet turn out that it was human error or delayed maintenance that was the underlying cause.
  5. As long as what is produced isn't a number 2
  6. New person to follow on YouTube.
  7. The problem with technology based solutions is that they are quickly superseded and the old ways become obsolete. Take Apple as an example with the aux socket being removed, having a non standard connector, doing away now with the connector altogether. Or to the more extreme - video - dvd - download. The near constant change in standards and technical solutions means you constantly play catch up - does that mean over time older EV vehicles become obsolete because the industry changes the standards and forces you to upgrade your vehicle just like PCs or phones etc. At least with petrol and diesel the world had reached a point where there was almost complete universitality of the fuel product to be used in vehicles.
  8. Ghost trains for getting the drivers refreshed, Santa specials begin soon. Given the turbulent year plus the shenanigans with the boards it is good to see trains running again on the WSR
  9. It was the Well Tank that attracted me back to OO from N and I was never disappointed with either of my Kernow/DJM versions. The only time they struggled was with Hornby ex LSWR coaches which had the brake gear rubbing on the wheels adding a lot of resistance - solved by hacking off the brake shoes. My two 02s are also lovely runners, better than my Hornby M7s. I'm glad you've now got a good one and can enjoy yours as much as I've enjoyed running mine.
  10. You need to look at this thread for the latest version of the Class 86 that Heljan are developing and that Gaugemaster will be using for their models.
  11. Peco also did a 2251 Collett - it kickstarted DCC in UK N gauge, their previous loco was the Jubilee some 30 years earlier. It would be good if Kato made a bigger investment in the UK market, but a collaboration with Peco doesn't mean entry into mass market but providing support to a niche model - Bachmann are also investing in 009 and Heljan had a dabble.
  12. Plaza Japan is amazing - over 124 pages of N gauge trains including some motorised sushi. Ok a lot is out of stock, but it shows the breadth of Kato, Tomix, Tomytec and other models. We really have it poor in comparison for N gauge.
  13. It all depends why Kato chose to produce an N gauge model of a Japanese designed train for the UK market. Is it because it a Japanese designed train or because they believe there is a market in the UK it can tap like the US. It's one train in two liveries, they had years to do an iconic HST and didn't. With no indication of what comes next it may be that the best short term route to an 800 derivative would be after market vinyl overlays for the other liveries.
  14. Actually, I do know someone who could help and he doesn't reside in Bootle. He has experience and lives in a Parochial house..... With acknowledgement to http://www.quickmeme.com/meme/3p8vfp for the meme.
  15. I was wondering that myself, but of course with current restrictions us Northerners in Tier 3 land won't be going anywhere near the South West to see the 143s behind (or half the time at the front) of a 4 coach train. How long left for the 143s?
  16. They're gone (apparently) https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/av/uk-england-manchester-55110222
  17. I just realised I touched someone other than my wife today - the first time since March. Was involved in a small shunt in the car, not my fault, the other driver and I shook hands as there had been a little bit of argy bargy from the shock of being rear ended. Didn't even consider covid, that said I did use anti-bac when I entered the shop, not because I had shook hands but because I had had my hands all over the rear bumper on my car. It's only now I am reading this I've realised that I was in physical contact. There was a chap in Sainsburys, worse for wear would be a fair way to describe him, mask under his nose right up in the face of the member of staff. He wasn't arguing just asking where the Quality Street are and then they bumped elbows. In that circumstance I was concerned about the close proximity of the two people. What does that say about me? In an RTA I only thought about the incident, but once in a normal environment with everyone in masks I became fearful.
  18. There is this, not the crisp quality of clean vinyl but it gives some of the delights of these old recordings. https://www.youtube.com/user/bobgellatly
  19. Free, or feel free to donate something in a couple of months if you feel like it.
  20. According to Personnel today - Exeter is working with non covid care. Manchester is also non covid. If nothing else having these facilities is letting the NHS catch up on backlogs from the first wave in non covid diagnostics and care.
  21. That's why they always put a cover over said buttons, so that they have to first lift of the cover and then press the button. Watch any disaster movie and before they press any big red buttons there is always the tense lifting of the cover. In the case of Alien, Signourney Weaver had the cover, and if I remember also had to pull out several plungers which needed turning to start the emergency self destruct.
  22. As I have 3 108s, a 122 and a 101 I'm probably not in the market for anymore DMUs but clearly Farish have made strides in their later sound locos.
  23. Movement, well there has been movement, it's not currently moving and is silent, but it has moved
  24. Saw this at Doncaster, at the Racecourse, they were having some sort of exhibition thing, there were lots of other model railways there too, and places where you could buy model locos and other bits and pieces. I remember Andy Y was there too, in person, he was lent up against another model railway in the foyer. I think there used to be lots of these things in the past, almost every weekend at times. Such a long time ago, memories fade. But back to the model, it was excellent in the flesh and comes back to the old adage, it's not how much track you can lay down and how many locomotives you can fit on your railway at one time, but how well you capture the character of what it is you are modelling.
