    EBay madness

I think that's even taking rule one a bit too far!
  2. Which sums exactly why standing at windows is no longer allowed. Yet again the few spoiling things for the many.
  3. Some of us not otherwise 'in the know' are finding this thread useful and informative. I for one would hate to see it locked because of 'personal spats'. Perhaps these sort of discussions would be better continued through private messaging.
  4. It's on the inside of the curve!
  5. With apologies for dragging this thread off topic: Not long before I retired, the company I worked for, started using laser marking as an alternative to printing. The guy put in charge of the process would insist on referring to the process as 'lasing'. I think he arrived at the word following the logic that, for instance, if a marker is used for marking something, a laser must be used for lasing something. I eventually gave up on trying to convince him there was no such word, and the correct term was etching.
  6. Thank you for the very clear explanation.I think what was confusing me was the use in some places of the term crossover for what is actually a diamond crossing. As far as the slips go, it confirms what I thought. A train can go into one side and come back out the same side without actually 'crossng over'. One other thing which I don't quite understand is reference to handed diamond rossings (left & right).
  7. They have, its got a big label on it: Income from taxation
  8. Another question from a confused non-railwayman. Can someone explain please: A. What is the difference between a crossover, a single slip and a double slip. B. Is a crossover the same as a diamond crossing. Thanks, Brian
  9. I hope its not new Christmas toys you two are throwing out of your prams
  10. What were you expecting, an overnight sleigh delivery?
  11. But these days a lot of people do tend to behave like lost sheep.
  12. Strangely there does seem to be noticeably less peace and goodwill on the forum at the moment than there has been during the rest of the year.
  13. Well I've learned a new word tonight.St.Isambard - has a certain ring to it.
  14. Having just been reading the threadon bidirectional running, the thought came to me: If you made the signals from MDF would they be multi directional functioning,
  15. Further to earlier post, these are now available again!I was looking for them this morning, couldn't find them anywhere, so assumed I'd accidentally thrown them out. Looking through boxes for something else later on, I found them!! Moving. Grrrh!! Brian
  16. Sorry these are no longer available. Brian
  17. That was before the days of blame culture, elf & safety and 'no win, no fee' solicitors.
  18. Ok so I note the replies and agree with them. But, and maybe I'm being a bit pedantic here, the statement 'bad in a horizontal configuration' is a bit of a generalisation, there was no reference to thickness, size & spacing of support etc, I wouldn't use it as a baseboard for the reasons which have been quoted, but the point I was trying to make is, there are situations where chipboard performs well 'in a horizontal configuration',
  19. Wait until they get to the atmospheric railway this week!
  20. Im surprised the Elf & Safety bods allowed that to run with the yellow end not visible
