    EBay madness

Going off topic I know (but, hey, this is RMWeb), I have an uncle who used to be a garage mechanic. Some of you may be old enough to remember the BMC 1100 range, with Morris, Austin, Wolsley, Riley & Vanden Plas variants. I well remember him saying on one occasion that many of the parts for the different variants were identical, but if you ordered one for a Vanden Plas it would cost more than one ordered for a Morris or Austin.
  2. Well it looks like I've qualified to join this thread. I've been diagnosed with bowel cancer. It all came about from the two yearly screening, which those of you over 60 will be familiar with. Something showed up, so had to go through the pleasure of a colonoscopy. That showed up a tumour between the terminus at the appendix and the junction at the small intestine. Had a CT scan which showed a couple of 'suspect areas', one in the liver and one in the left lung. Had a PET-CT scan yesterday, that's the one where a radioactive die is pumped into you. SWMBO didn't want me anywhere close to her last night, can't think why! Today I'm having an MRI scan on the liver, with more stuff pumped into me to show things up better. Have to wait about 10 days while they decide on a plan of action, but I've had a pre-op appointment today for Monday week, so looks like they're keen to get on with it. They're a bit worried about the position of the tumour, if it grows too much it could 'foul' the points at the junction and block the line The plan so far is, because there's also a suspect polyp halfway along the top of the colon, to remove the part of the colon where the tumour and polyp are, and join up what's left, leaving me with a semicolon! I read through this thread last night, and as with most things on RMWeb, found it very helpful and supportive. Brian
  3. In pre-CAD days the pre-printed master sheets we used always included "DO NOT SCALE" in a large bold font. When we transferred to CAD that statement was added to the format sheets all drawings were created on. We often suggested another statement should be added: Any similarity between this drawing and the finished item is purely coincidental.
  4. I've been sorting through some old photos and have come across some I took when Westcountry Class 34007 Wadebridge was moved from the Plym Valley to Bodmin. I'm trying to remember when that was. I've looked on their website but it doesn't give a date for this. I'm sure someone on the mine of info that is RMWeb will know. Sorry Mods I've just realised this may be in the wrong place. Please move accordingly.
  5. My contribution to keeping this thread off topic: From what I understand Cornwall was one area where the majority voted to leave. Then when it was too late they remembered all the EU grants and subsidies they'd been getting. Brian (a Cornish exile)
  6. Now the motive power sends its waste products upwards into the atmosphere instead.
  7. I had one recently offering cheaper calls than I was getting with BT. I kept him going until he started asking for bank details, then said I couldn't understand why he was asking for all the info as I'm with Virgin.
  8. Without wanting to drag another thread off topic: Not sure about the coaches being loaded but I believe it's something to do with, if it's a long train, in order to get all the coaches in line with the platform, the loco has to draw right to the end, which means the coach next to the loco is fouling the points of the run round loop. Usually, when passengers have disembarked the train is propelled off the points then the loco runs back past the points which are changed so the loco can run round then propel the train back in line with the platform. I can only assume that passengers who have done one part of the journey, say to Boscarne, are permitted to remain on the train while the maneuver is performed before making the second part of the journey, to Parkway
  9. How close is a 66 to a 67? Depends where the drivers leave them. (Hat, coat, running as fast as my little legs will carry me).

Thanks for that, I'll give it a try.
  11. According to the recent TV series on NYMR there's a piglet causing chaos in the workshops.

    EBay madness

More a case of my madness with eBay. Did my usual search for newly listed N gauge this morning and it came up with pages and pages of stuff from Japan. Great I suppose for those who collect Tomix etc but somewhat infuriating for someone who's only interested in Farish, Dapol& Peco. I reckon they must have spent all last week listing the stuff with a scheduled start of midnight last night or something. I was determined to get to the end of it, but eventually the computer gave up and refused to show any more, just sat there with the little refresh arrow going round and round. Grrrh!!!
  13. Can I suggest this discussion on the rights and wrongs of the financial sector be moved elsewhere to allow this thread to return to its origins of the loss of another company and the fate of its employees.

    EBay madness

This post is not so much about the possible madness of eBay buyers/sellers as the apparent madness of eBay itself. I did my usual search for N gauge this morning. Now I have become accustomed to the occasional rogue result either due to stuff being listed in the wrong category or the eBay search showing stuff just because the title includes an N, but today's search results included: Christmas Cards Valentine's Cards Colouring Pens Dulux Paint Deoderant for Athletes Treatment for a Unitary Tract Infection !
