  1. cheers put the cab light in both on F25 on the green aux wire.
  2. I have been reading about SMD resistors and watching youtube videos. I think I will buy some and have a go with them and see how i feel about handling them. I have a fine end tip for my soldering iron and i have a good magnifying glass. Looking at the videos the 1206 ones are the larger size ones, then 0805, 0603, then the 0402 are smallest. cheers again darryl
  3. thanks for the reply, but now I am even more confused to be honest. I don't know the voltage drop across the LEDs, and I don't know the voltage from the decoder. is the resistor wattage the maximum they can handle? so in your scenario where a 1K resistor across 12V where the led drop is 12V, you say the power consumed by the resistor is 100mW, so a 1/4W resistor would still be ok? many thanks darryl
  4. afternoon all, I have just fitted Hornby tts valenta sound to two GNER hsts, with upgraded speakers from roads and rails. i notice on the tts info sheet that there is an aux function on F25. i'm just wondering if the cab light led wire can be moved to one of the spare ones on the circuit board (LED4 or LED5) and F25 programmed to turn the cab light on/off, or to the green wire on the decoder? many thanks darryl
  5. many, many thanks mate. just before you posted i was looking at metal film resistors on ebay and i was going to ask what wattage would be best. thanks again for all your help and advice regards darryl
  6. cheers mate, I know virtually nothing (apart from some basics) about electrocincs so sorry for sounding dumb. those surface mount resistors look tiny and very delicate to solder to. the resistors I have are 1K ohm so to reduce the led brightness shall i buy various resistors with differing resistances, such as 10k, 20k, etc to 100k. or do you have another preference? many thanks darryl
  7. ah . many thanks for the replies all the best darryl
  8. cheers for the replies, it is really appreciated. the main reason i was asking arout leds in series is that i'm just about to fit lights to a Hornby sentinel and space is limited. the resistors that were supplied with the leds are the large ones which are about 5mm long by 1mm wide and 1K-ohm. many thanks again darryl
  9. Dear all, sorry to post another topic so quikcly. I have Hornby 8 pin DCC decoder in an 08 and also Hornby TTS in an A4. I am trying to find the CV values for the various functions (mainly F0 and Aux1) to reduce the brightness of the lights. I can't find the 8 pin decoder manual on the Hornby webpage and the A4 TTS info sheet that came with the sound decoder doesn't mention the CV values and how to change them for F0 and Aux 1, is anybody able to help / point me in the correct direction please. many thanks darryl
  10. cheers for the replies guys. another question, if I want two leds for headlights, does it matter if i wire them in parallel with a resistor each or wire in series with one resisitor? I am not after very bright lights hence thinking that in series would be ok. many thanks darryl
  11. morning all, I have searched the forum for a reply, but the serch function on the site isn't the greatest. I have recently fitted a headlamp to a Hornby 08 and used a LED for the light source. as per the LED suppliers instructions I have fitted the resistor to the +ve leg. however on the instructions I have for the Hornby decoder it shows a wiring diagram with the green aux 1 wire and says the resistor is on the -ve leg. which one do i go with? many thanks Darryl
  12. no it's just the general marker light fault where it shows only on one side. This is the model I renumbered before seeing that there was a generic marker light fault, and thus returned the model. regards darryl
  13. same here, just hoping for the correct blue on the NP 59/2
  14. without going through 106 pages. does anyone have an easy fix to the coupling to prevent the loco derailing the wagon directly behind the loco on curves? many thanks darryl
  15. IIRC the colas branding on one side is the wrong size / in the wrong place and there is the marker light fault regards darryl
  16. That is true, but it's another £25 per each model I own. I don't mind the £122.50 price but when I add it to basket with the EM2 speaker the price jumps to £140. Regards Darryl
  17. I'm gutted I haven't ordered the sound versions for the extra £115.
  18. will this delivery include the scotsman 66s, and has the lighting problem been rectified?
  19. thanks for the replies guys. it bent / cracked along the line under the lip above where the coupling spring is held in place. Temporary i have used superglue to fill the crack and put some plastercard underneath which isn't doing a bad job.
  20. Hello all, I had a terrible incident today with my Hornby class 60 chassis, wherw I accidently knocked it off my work bench onto the carpet. The front part (where the cab internal sits) bent due to the impact with the floor. When I slowly tried to bend it back into line it virtually broke off (it's still attached but any further movement will break it off. For now I have put some superglue along he crack, but I'm wondering what i can do for a permanent fix? I have tried to see if anywhere just sells the chassis but with no luck. Many thanks in advance for any help. Regards Darryl
  21. I was told at model rail scotland to expect an announcement in the summer / later in the year :-D
  22. Just had a closer look and I hold my hands up and appologise for being wrong. There isn't any difference in the headlight sizes but the size of the LED on the marker/tail light is smaller on the original low emission varients, and on the original spec 66's the marker/tail LED is the same size as the headlight. sorry again
  23. From what I have been told, and from looking at them, the new LED clusters being fitted to the orginal class 66s are the same as the LED light clusters on the low emssion 66's
  24. That is true but the original question was 'do you have any future plans for variants using the “New LED headlight cluster”. The answer is still the same as I posted which they already are doing, which have you pointed out are the low emission varients. but they aren't doing the low emission varients later fitted with the new led clusters.
  25. actually in a way they do, it's the loco's listed under LED Wipac Headlights. the 'New' LED Headlight Cluster' is just older loco's that have had the old Standard Wipac Headlights replaced with the LED cluster.
