I had a call from a chap who wanted to sell me a new driveway (presumably resurfacing my existing one). He asked me if I still had a driveway (what?) so I told him no I hadn't because I'd dug it up and sold it.

Anyway, that can't be in Yorkshire, chap's got a coat on.

Cowlairs makes more sense for a train in Oban than does Carlisle. Never noticed this kind of marker before though. -

I'm sorry I have no idea but no doubt someone will know. Unfortunatley I didn't note any coach numbers at the time but it certainly wasn't a Composite Lavatory suburban coach! -

26008 at Carlisle, date unknown but possibly mid to late 80s - I'm sure someone will have a better idea than I do! It's obviously had a door swap. Edit to add: According to "Scotland's Diesel Fleet in Detail" 26008 had a bogie swap with rectangular footsteps by April 1984. In early 1985 it was reallocated to Inverness and received its black and yellow stag logos before being reallocated to Haymarket by April 1985 where it received castle logos. For comparison: www.flickr.com/photos/dwbphotos/8429693261 Can't work out what the replacement door might have come from though!- 354 replies

Unusual loco's used on rail tours over the S&C
60021 Pen-y-Ghent replied to TravisM's topic in Settle & Carlisle route
It's true, they did. It was early 90s - can't remember if it was 90 or 91 - between Christmas and New Year for some service originating in Leeds. There were also some at other times originating in Carlisle. I have photos somewhere - I'll try and find them. Added: Seems it was not just Christmas time either: www.railwayherald.com/imagingcentre/view/463162/LC and: www.railforums.co.uk/threads/haulage-on-the-s-c-in-the-1980s.116058/ (scroll down to the end) -

British Railways didn't think so: http://disused-stations.org.uk/r/reedsmouth/index39.shtml Though the settlement is so named.

Just rediscovering the superb work of Nic Jones. What a guitarist and singer he was! Sadly missed. Coupled with the melodeon playing of Tony Hall - just magic for me. See (or listen) open.spotify.com/track/35twsbi3Gw2vNSfQzxXYxt 😄

Heljan class 27 with tablet catcher recess
60021 Pen-y-Ghent replied to matchmaker's topic in Heljan
There is a photo of 5357 in the book "Looking back at class 26 & 27 locomotives" (pub. Strathwood). This shows the recess without apparatus. It is dated as September 1972 and location Eastfield. -
Here is my (not very good) photo of 26032 heading north from Forsinard in September 1980 with an interesting mix of stock.

Or not allow it in the last 5 or 10 (or however many - choose a number) laps.

You might.

You'd have thought the Impatient bit would have been the first on the list so that the Impatient would read it first.
