yeah ibuprofen at the earliest symptom generally works for me. But if I leave it late they do nothing.

If you can ID and avoid something that triggers them, even better.

  7. His idea of the difference in values, and your idea, could be vastly different.... Have you contacted the previous owner directly yourself to see if such a FSH actually exists? Also, the difference in values may not actually cover any possible damage should things go wrong....a missed Cambelt change can prove mighty expensive. Also, is it a dealer FSH, or Fred Bloggs round the corner FSH? If it's a dealer, then perhaps ask the previous owner which one, then approach that dealer yourself for confirmation of history held on their systems - most will be able to tell you without problem. Another option may be to insist that the supplying dealer pays for a (good) 1 year independent warranty for the car. Why good? Many have a list of exclusions as long as your arm...such as insisting the car is serviced properly...

  11. I've a feeling that a push towards water based paints is behind it: http://www.which.co.uk/home-and-garden/home-improvements/reviews-ns/gloss-paint/low-voc-paint/ I believe cars are now painted using water based paints also, which is meaning that cellulose paints (and thinners) is getting harder to obtain (the trick is to go to a large specialist motor paint supplier and tell them you're restoring a classic car.....). How long will it be before model enamels bite the dust? Good ol' EU strike again.....
  12. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pr7wcHTzcTg Oh no sir.....gets messy Gordon said: "ET is still there and I'm hopeful as September moves to October that the weather will break and my love for my second hobby will start to rekindle and something will run. " September - October? Long way off....
  13. Two months, five days, ten hours and fifteen minutes since Gordon's last update Not that anyone's counting...... There must have been a lot of progress. Or a lot of Golf Balls beaten to death.... polybear
  14. Oil based paint (in particular white) is well known for changing colour over time. Not sure about the effect on "colours", but white goes yellowish with time - it's worse where the finish receives less daylight. That's why white woodwork around the house goes yellow with time. I have cupboard doors painted white from new (i.e. not overcoating a previous finish) on both sides at the same time, using the same paint out of the same tin. Over time, the daylight side of the door appears much whiter than the "dark" side of the door. I believe water-based paints are not prone to this (they're just cr*p to use and chip if you look at them too hard). I have a shiny white twenty quid pre-painted B&Q panel door (sprayed using w/b paint presumably) that is as white as the day it was purchased, whereas the surrounding door frame (oil paint) is yellow.... However, on new model railway stock you'd hope for consistent colours irrespective of manufacturer Though I've seen it said many times that painters of the 1:1 railway stock used to mix their own paints from colour cards, so there's plenty of scope for variation there. Especially after a heavy night/lunchtime down at the Railway Arms.... polybear

  19. A sadly deceased friend of mine was a spannerman in a ford garage many years ago, when the Mk.1 Cortina (I think this was the model in question - it's been a few years since he told me the story) was first unveiled. A customer purchased a new one, and was back soon after, complaining of abysmal performance and mpg. "Needs more running in" he was told. Customer went away - came back several weeks later, still complaining. Car was checked all over, to make sure nothing obvious was occurring (eg binding brakes). Garage Boss kept it for a few days, and agreed car was appalling. More checks - nothing. Eventually the boss said " take the back seat out!" "WTFF?" came the reply. "Just do it" said the boss. And the result? A bloody great concrete block underneath!! Turns out the car had a previous existence as a test car, after which it was tarted up and sold as new. By all accounts Ford "did a deal" with said customer, on condition he kept his trap shut.... polybear
