Ah yes, those were the days, when group B rally cars would literally dig boulders out of the Kielder Forest tracks, and launch them at you!

A spectacle and sound to behold, especially the distinctive exhaust note from those 5 cylinder Audis.

Given the likelihood of penalties in such matches, you'd think they'd ALL practice taking them until they were expert....

    3. queensquare

      queensquare

Unfair Mr York. The penalties were missed by two players brought on in the last minute who had barely kicked a ball in anger for a month and a young 19 year old who had the balls to step up and take one in that cauldron. England tried to defend a 1-0 lead from half time with timid substitutions against a seasoned, experienced team who hadn't lost in 33 games.

The notion that all the team don't practice penalties just shows a lack of understanding of the game.

No blame on Saka but if you're going to engage in a bit of showboating please don't miss the open goal you've created. Anyway, I blame the scriptwriter for the lack of originality in the film ending.

Ha! Mayday/Labour Day fell on a Saturday. Here in Switzerland there's no passing on in lieu, so it's lost to all but shop staff. But only in the Protestant Kantons; it's one of the few (if not the only) public holidays that the RC don't indulge in. Probably because no saints are involved.

Anyhow, Andy, thanks for getting RMweb back up. When I saw that the site was down, my first thought was "who'd be a site admin?"

Sir Tom had been being treated for pneumonia for several weeks, it is quite possible that he caught it from someone then. The covid was probably the last straw, the main damage was done by the pneumonia.

      RIP Sir Tom.

Very sad - a truly iconic gentleman who in spirit brought the nation together during its difficulty.

    4. Huw Griffiths

      Huw Griffiths

I suspect that his immune system had probably been "shot" for a while - preventing him from catching Covid / pneumonia (or anything else, for that matter) would unfortunately have been virtually impossible - with predictable results.

Most people who've been anywhere near a hospital in the last year would be aware that visitors seem to be strenglich verboten - especially on Covid wards, where they try to keep visitors away unless they don't think someone's got long left.

The moment it was reported that Captain Tom had been admitted to hospital with "Covid pneumonia" - was not in an ICU - and was being visited by family - I knew what to expect, but really wanted to be proved wrong.

Despite this, the news still came as a terrible shock.

      RIP Captain Sir Tom Moore.
