  1. I'd be tempted to lay a siding that could be imagined as a headshunt for an off-scene industry, goods facility etc. Operationally a loco could appear and after a period of time reverse off-scene as if running round a train. Alternatively an 08 or 09 could shunt a few wagons to and fro. Minimal cost and easy to achieve. OK so not based on a real location but there weren't many really central London freight terminals after the 1960s.
  2. I believe that the OP has the correct identification, an FBB. Here's a lightened extract of the most recent photo in this thread. The floor is lower than the top of the bufferbeam and you can see "stuff" between the axles that is very similar to that found on the 20' 9" chassis used under air braked vans. https://paulbartlett.zenfolio.com/freightliner4wheel But I could be wrong.
  3. Ahhh long gone are the days when major work north of Didcot would result in the cross country's going via Swindon, Stroud, Standish Jn, the Lickey and Camp Hill to get to Brum. Might've taken a bit longer but back then who worried about being late?
  4. It seems that the container traffic is going via the GWML and WCML. A random look at some timings, in this case the 05.35 Garston to Soton, Stafford is passed at 07.18 and arrival at the M.C.T. is 13.07 regardless of normal or diversionary route. Oxford-ites have the Marylebone services if they don't fancy a bus to Didcot.
  5. Wasn't there a rumour years ago that a CJM loco with a Saturn chassis could pull the skin off a rice pudding? It would therefore seem that 20 JHAs weigh more than one of those desserts 😉 Glad I didn't shell out for any JHAs although I really wanted some. Perhaps a second run, if it happens, with rectified faults will encourage me to part with some cash?
  6. Please could you put your pictures up again so we can all share in your happiness?
  7. They're out there alright. How often at a show do you see a poster saying that if you've got a layout to contact the exhibition manager? The pandemic hasn't helped. I did a couple of shows pre-pandemic, one with each of my two layouts, but didn't receive any invites for future shows (OK so there might be issues with the layouts or they're not to people's taste but we'll not have that debate now). So now I need to break into the show calendar again but there's only been one near me this year and I was double-booked that day. Chicken and egg!
  8. Cannot, as this time, see if there's a way of accessing the interior so that a crew can be fitted. Perhaps a crew will be fitted at both ends during production?
  9. If you cannot wait the N Gauge Society do a kit and transfers.
  10. 1,2,3,5 and 7 are. I think 4,6 and 8 are O&Ks.
  11. A MYSTEX is a possibility. Years ago I read a story about a family from Margate who went on holiday to Blackpool. Whilst away they decided to go on a MYSTEX and guess where they ended up?
  12. In the early 80s headcode 32 was Waterloo to Waterloo via Richmond and Kingston. That service started in May 1986 so after the Hastings line had switched to EMUs.
  13. They're pointers, with text removed, to show those who are geographically challenged where major towns or cities are located.
  14. Out of curiosity does anyone know how the Laira 08 that was outstationed at Meldon Quarry was serviced? Given that it was 75 rail miles from home I wonder if some sort of local work was carried out or perhaps even the odd run to Exeter, 25 miles, for fuel and / or a light exam.
  15. If you've got time try looking through this thread.

  17. I have to admit I didn't because Aggregate Industries didn't exist in 1989. I'll try it and also Foster Yeoman Isle of Grain.
  18. Here's what Which says about faulty goods https://www.which.co.uk/consumer-rights/advice/what-do-i-do-if-i-have-a-faulty-product-aTTEK2g0YuEy Here are the key paragraphs "The retailer is responsible If what you’ve bought doesn’t satisfy any one of the three criteria outlined above, than the retailer that sold it to you is in breach of the Consumer Rights Act. This means that your statutory consumer rights are against the retailer – the company that sold you the product – not the manufacturer." A special edition model should be treated no differently to a standard model.
  19. In the Autumn of 1989 Foster Yeoman were testing a 59/0 on the Isle of Grain. I found these pictures https://www.railwayherald.com/imagingcentre/view/313835/PL https://www.railwayherald.com/imagingcentre/view/222429/LC but they're only light engine movements. Please does anyone have any information about what the trials were preparing for and whether the 59/0 was actually used for any revenue services? Thanks.
  20. On the assumption that the body just clips onto the chassis then I cannot see a reason why Rapido cannot run off say an extra 250 chassis and sell them into the conversion market. Of course there's a fine balance between supply and demand on what would be a niche product. As part of their VIX release the N Gauge Society are also going to offer a limited amount of chassis-only in addition to fully finished wagons. That market would be smaller than in 4mm but they've listened to potential customers and have been persuaded that the idea's a runner (small pun intended ).
  21. No mention of any Covid rules so they might get a good turnout.
  22. They certainly are and there are upcoming shows in the West Country where there's no mention in the blurb about Covid mitigation rules.
  23. I note that the downed tree had quite a lot of ivy growing on it. That can help to catch the wind and in extreme circumstances bring down a whole tree. The tree behind the running in board seems to have a good covering as well. For years I've been snipping off ivy once it gets past eye level but I left the wild rose growing through the chestnut tree and guess what happened on Sunday night?
