Teleporting, or telepathy. If it's the latter, then we wouldn't need fora such a this, cos we'd all know what each other was thinking, which really wouldn't be good in most cases :O

Still at Gatwick, no sign of the runway opening any time soon, whether or not we will fly today is still very unclear.

I wouldn't want to be publicly identified as the culprit(s) when they are finally identified and caught. I wonder if those delayed or with their flights cancelled and plans in ruins can sue the ar8e off those responsible?

Some years ago. two of my Met Office colleagues were doing a 'horizon survey' on top of a weather radar tower near Carmarthen. Whilst they were doing it, they kept getting buzzed by Tornados on 150' low flying exercises - the tower was 120' tall!

Afterwards, my colleagues went to the pub, and happened to meet one of the RAF pilots.

"Oh, so you're the guys who were buzzing us on top of the weather radar tower," one of my colleagues said.

"Is that what it is?" asked the pilot. "We've been using it as a target for the last 6 months!"

This Typhoon was probably lower than 200 metres actually, possibly 150. Everyone was speechless for several minutes afterwards!

Just as well none of those pilots ever fired anything at the weather station...

No Tornado's left in RAF anymore, was it a Typhoon?

All he knew was that his working days were miserable and he had a succession of lousy holidays. All the clouds knew was that they loved him and wanted to be near him, to cherish him, and to water him

      MarkC

I find the xcweather.co.uk site to be reasonably good. Remember, meteorology is still very much an 'inexact science'

    4. Hroth

      Hroth

The weather map that MeteoGroup uses for NW England is a satellite image taken at low tide, so the coastal outlines are totally unrecognisable.

Some councils promote the idea of "ratting" on antisocial dog walkers, could be going on in the district. Depending on the appearance of owner/breed of dog, I'd have got my phone out and pretended to take a picture....

  14. Isn't it so handy when one of the questions in your GCSE Physics exam is about pressure in a steam locomotive? ;)

    1. Show previous comments  4 more
    2. Liam

      Liam

Well it was NOT written with railway terminology in mind - 'Here is a steam engine inside a steam train' - and it asked me to explain why the pressure increased with the temperature, calculate the pressure in the piston using P= F/A, the energy transfer in the firebox. Needless to say if I don't get full marks in that question that'll be very embarrassing!

Good, hope it went well. What paper was that? On my P3 paper last year there was a question about using a model of a train to work out the tilt needed for a high speed train. If you are so inclined, there are many more train questions at A level physics.
