50 years ago today, Dad's Army, arguably Britain's best ever sitcom, first aired.

hates it when you come across a selfish dog walker who doesn't believe he should tidy up after his dog, and then when it's pointed out by a passer by (me) he has the cheek to say, "You're a spy!"
-
wonders where the next announcement will come from.

There's nothing quite like being sat outside in the garden listening to the church bells is there?
-
So barely a minute after the final whistle it starts raining for the first time in ages - coincidence?

Can't help but think that the Chris Grayling impression on Radio 4's Dead Ringers is similar to Hornby's recent strategy; making announcements of announcements to try and keep people's attention.

Isn't it so handy when one of the questions in your GCSE Physics exam is about pressure in a steam locomotive?

Well it was NOT written with railway terminology in mind - 'Here is a steam engine inside a steam train' - and it asked me to explain why the pressure increased with the temperature, calculate the pressure in the piston using P= F/A, the energy transfer in the firebox. Needless to say if I don't get full marks in that question that'll be very embarrassing!

'Now is the winter of our discontent, made glorious summer by this sun of York.'

That's strange, only a few days after buying a Western for my future exhibition layout I discover that the prototype of that particular Western was involved in a fatal crash on my birthday....

Has anyone in North Yorkshire had a power cut?
-
has been listening to the skirl of the bagpipes for most of the afternoon.
-
Well what do you know, get taught in DT theory about wind-up radios, and then only a few hours later the man who invented them, Trevor Bayliss, passes away at 80.

Busy week this week, what with mock GCSEs starting!
-
has just experienced that annoying scenario when, having received a delivery of items for your cakebox, you realise that you forgot to order the Harburn coal sacks. *sighs*
-
has just returned from the first of many nights at his local model railway club. Now with a bit of luck my layout plans can take off!
-
Apparently today has been the hottest day of the year.

would like to take the opportunity now to wish all the good folk of RMweb a very merry Christmas; hope Santa brings what everyone's asked for!
