  1. 50 years ago today, Dad's Army, arguably Britain's best ever sitcom, first aired.

  2. hates it when you come across a selfish dog walker who doesn't believe he should tidy up after his dog, and then when it's pointed out by a passer by (me) he has the cheek to say, "You're a spy!"

Some councils promote the idea of "ratting" on antisocial dog walkers, could be going on in the district. Depending on the appearance of owner/breed of dog, I'd have got my phone out and pretended to take a picture....

    3. DCB

      DCB

Its an offence in some places and not others. Cotswold District has a ban but dogs can **** in the gutter with impunity on roads with a 40 MPH + limit in most areas

Worse still are the owners who put the deposit in alittle plastic bag then leave it hanging on a tree or bush.

      ....it's raining,

  6. Can't help but think that the Chris Grayling impression on Radio 4's Dead Ringers is similar to Hornby's recent strategy; making announcements of announcements to try and keep people's attention.

I did think exactly that when listening, Portillo was also a good one

  7. Isn't it so handy when one of the questions in your GCSE Physics exam is about pressure in a steam locomotive? ;)

    2. Liam

      Liam

Well it was NOT written with railway terminology in mind - 'Here is a steam engine inside a steam train' - and it asked me to explain why the pressure increased with the temperature, calculate the pressure in the piston using P= F/A, the energy transfer in the firebox. Needless to say if I don't get full marks in that question that'll be very embarrassing!

    3. cal.n

      cal.n

Good, hope it went well. What paper was that? On my P3 paper last year there was a question about using a model of a train to work out the tilt needed for a high speed train. If you are so inclined, there are many more train questions at A level physics.

    4. Liam

      Liam

It was an Edexcel paper, and the last question in the exam.

  8. Isn't it interesting to think that soon one will be able to travel from York to London on the London & North Eastern Railway, and then from London to Cardiff on the Great Western Railway?

'MeteoGroup' just don't seem to be as accurate as the Met office plus their graphics are poor.

    3. MarkC

      MarkC

I find the xcweather.co.uk site to be reasonably good. Remember, meteorology is still very much an 'inexact science'

    4. Hroth

      Hroth

The weather map that MeteoGroup uses for NW England is a satellite image taken at low tide, so the coastal outlines are totally unrecognisable.

It was me last year (doing the real ones) they usually use last years real papers because they withhold the mark scemes for that set of papers so you can’t find them online. I assume we have some exam boards in common so I wouldn’t be surprised if you are doing one I did. Good luck
