  1. Announcement at Birmingham New Street: "We are sorry to announce that the 11:32 to Longbridge has been cancelled. This is due to a shortage of passengers." Office team being rebellious or what?

Same here, bit too far to get to so I'll be keeping an eye on things on here over here...

  6. That annoying moment when you desperately need the track cutters but can't find them!

  7. Finally! I've managed to log on here for the first time since early this morning. Every time I tried it came up with an Error 502 message. Was this the same for anyone else, or is it my device going funny?

For most of the day, packets got lost in the internet bit bucket, then it started 502/Bad Gateway which is frequently symptomatic of a DOS attack. Whatever the reason the server was just playing silly b****rs, and needed the firm hand of Authority to knock it back into shape!

  8. has just seen the decorated samples of the forthcoming 009 range from Bachmann - how on earth can I justify buying a wagon or two?

Trouble is Captain, I've always modelled 00 gauge, and it would look a bit odd in a diesel depot!

Dare we say "cake box" layout?

Indeed Alex, I'm now planning a small diesel depot layout set in the early 70s with DCC sound.

      Cake box? There's a thought . .

Interesting ideas, was delayed there today in a Pendolino while on my way back to the Midlands from Scotland, and was further delayed at Crewe. Nightmare journey today.

seems like there have been problems today all over the place, I was caught up with the cancellations between Rugby and Coventry this morning, but not as bad as this http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/127559-i-am-very-cross/?p=2903388

  10. Oh dear, on the inaugural commercial run of a class 800 IEP from Bristol to London the air conditioning had to be turned off due to a big leak. All the more reason not to get rid of the HSTs!

I must admit you did reignite my brain with the idea of a layout with sound-fitted Westerns and class 20s. Would be a shame to see your layout be scrapped . . .

  14. Just heard of a blast on a District line tube in south west London. My thoughts and prayers are with those affected.

The assisting loco was 7820 Dinmore Manor.http://cgibin.wsr.org.uk/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?h=Snapshot&p=2017/09/180 That part of Somerset - The Quantock Hills - is actually quite hilly! Crocombe Heathfield station is the highest point on the line at just under 120m above sea level.

Teleporting, or telepathy. If it's the latter, then we wouldn't need fora such a this, cos we'd all know what each other was thinking, which really wouldn't be good in most cases :O

  20. has just seen Dunkirk, and thinks it's a masterpiece of a film. Though my eyes are somewhat hurting what with all the action and events of the film!

You should try to see the 1958 film also called "Dunkirk" which was considered outstanding good at a time when a significant proportion of the British population would have known someone who was actually there (or even been there themselves) and would have been very quick to criticise.

My dad's friends grandfather was safely evacuated from Dunkirk, and went back for a 40th anniversary in 1980.

Could be worse, the state of some of ScotRails is appalling (the ex Nat Ex & Wessex examples), while Northern's isn't much cop either.

  22. Has anyone been to Miniatur Wunderland in Hamburg? Supposedly the largest 'model rail exhibition' in the world.

I'm now on a U Bahn train heading back to where I'm staying. I'll put some pictures on my layout thread, but can thoroughly recommend to anyone.

Apparently about 191,000 British people have visited it - wonder how many RMwebbers are in that number?
