  1. Genius, love it! I know you love a wishlist, so is LNER varnished Teak in the next batch?
  2. Thinking about Richard Burton and HG Wells, nothing beats lying on sun loungers in the garden on a clear night with meteors forecast and Jeff Wayne's War of the Worlds playing next to you.
  3. I think this video sums up what you are saying about instructions perfectly. I used to love reading. My favourite author was Alistair Maclean, but I also had plenty of time for H G Wells and others. I never could stand Shakespeare however. I read Douglas Adams' Hitchikers series (A Trilogy in Four Parts) in one sitting once - well, lying on the bed. About 800 pages. Alas when I started work, reading took a back burner, then faded out altogether. I do read the odd non-fiction book but couldn't tell you the last time I read a novel.
  4. Hull c1996 - still there now but they have tarted it up a bit including replacing the turntable timbers.
  5. Er, what the smeg?!
  6. Probably on ebay next week... I'm on the "never heard of it" list.
  7. Hi Tony, I don't pretend to understand the full ins and outs of it but the source is the LNER Southern Section Sectional Appendix (1947). A quick Google search seemed to say that "Bricklayers Arms" is/was on the former Southern but I have no idea if that's where the code refers to. It specifically says that trains carrying that code should have lamps day or night (which your photo does not show) - perhaps there are tunnels on the route it refers to?
  8. Using the same Table S, two discs in that configuration states to or from Bricklayers Arms, albeit for that one it states Lamps to be carried throughout day or night.
  9. Curious that they decided there was a market for the 4mm J69 when there is the LRM (ex Riceworks) and the SEF one already available.
  10. Someone's been on the Gronk?
  11. They were battered, non-standard, and missing obligatory equipment which meant they were not permitted to travel on any other route.
  12. Whilst you say there isn't too much you can say about routine maintenance, would it be possible to include a bit about what you have to check and how you know if it's in spec or not - such as what the source of the documentation is? I'd find that quite interesting
  13. Congratulations, Keith and Michael. For a first model from a new company you seem to have nailed it.
  14. @Clive Mortimore may be able to advise?
  15. Not a surprise - compact units with high output, and reliable. Ideal.
  16. It absolutely is Wroxham. Fat fingers strikes again ;0
  17. The general appendix I have (dated 1947 although has stamps inside dated 1956 which might mean still valid then?) shows that disc code to be "Norwich and Cromer or Wroxham and County School" under Table S "Special Codes of Engine Head Lamps and Discs".
  18. I can't speak for their soldering stations but their temperature controlled (TCS) ones aren't the quality they used to be
  19. Do you do requests for photoshopping? I could do with a Fallen Madonna with the big...
  20. Thanks, that sounds a good idea. I think I'd prefer a case with sides all around though as I don't have a permanent workshop or shelves to keep things on so it needs to be something I can move around and put things on if that makes sense? Something like this I guess but UK supplied? https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/File-Storage-Box-Clear-Plastic-Document-Case-Desk-Paper-Organizer-Transparent/283282203139
  21. The first loco kit I built was a DJH J50. It went really well, I painted it with I think halfords black, put transfers on then sprayed it with railmatch varnish. It bloomed terribly. It was so demoralising. I used nitromors on it and it fell apart (I'd used glue to build it). I forget what happened with it after that, I can't find it anywhere so may have thrown it away in disgust. It's a large part of why I walked away from model railways for 20 years, and why I've got a few bits ready to paint but to be honest I'm scared to do it.
