    Class 142

Noticed this morning that 142019 (DMSL) now has a 4"x 4" patch of original Chocolate on show where a sign has sat for many years, (checked many photos and it's always been there since it's first repaint) and they have just painted around it. Located in the middle of Local door control flap and Bowden cable flap.

Ahh, the good old days of DIY draft proofing by stuffing newspaper between the cab window and bulkhead. Cab heaters on full whack and it still freezing cold at anything over 50MPH.For me the 144 was/is a step up. Good all round vision due to thin window pillars. Very good cab heaters both at the drivers and second mans side. Sealed bulkhead, so no draughts. But the 142 wins on the relaxed driving position. Looking forward to the 142 and and the early version of the 144. Saving up already.
  3. Was hoping they would sort the biscuit colour out on the rear lower body side but looking at the above film, it looks just like the previous Swallow twin pack (R2707) did. How disappointing.
  4. Can remember it well. Me and my mate used to ride about on West Yorkshire Metro day rovers when we were kids. Sometimes we'd 'forget' to get off at Leeds and 'have' to go out of West Yorkshire through to York. We loved standing in the gangway peering in to an intermediate cab to see how fast we were going down Church Fenton bank and on to Colton Junction. Often about 80mph was shown which is only 5mph over the permitted speed, but to us boys, it was great because it was naughty! Of course there were no spy in the cabs (OTMR) back then or speed guns, so the only chance the driver would be caught would be if a Traction Inspector was back cabbing. Great times!Interestingly, on the subject of 150's and speedo's, 150273 52 vehicle is odd, in having the only speedo dial on a 14x/15x with Northern, that goes up to 120mph. All others have 100mph.
  5. Your post about speaking to Bachmann at Aly Paly had past me by at the time. Just read back now. Fingers crossed we get some action soon, if like you said they are aware of the gap in the market. All this talk about flush front 45's inspired me to get mine out last night (A £6 body partnered up with a returned Chassis to Bachmann for £20 within a few minutes of each other at Warley years ago) with the assistance of my mate (who is a wizz with the soldering iron), we carried out a job I've been putting off for some time. The fitting of lights, courtesy of Jason Edmunds. What a difference it makes! Very straightforward to fit. Would highly recommend it. It completes my 45/0, as it is now weathered and has sound (Olivia's. My first ever sound chip from years ago). Very happy with it. Wish I'd bought another £6 body but at the time I didn't realise how sought after a flush front peak would become. Just grateful I didn't have to pay £385 for mine!
  6. Yes, I appreciate that but I could live with the full metal fly screen rather than the original clear Perspex one if it meant me getting a running man 150/2. They played a big part of the of the Northern scene in the 80's, and my layout is missing this important item. Fingers crossed for one in the near future.
  7. Good luck with this model lads. I'll certainly be purchasing a few from you. From what I can see, they look pretty much spot on.
  8. It would make sense. Was hoping I'd see an original as new sprinter running man 150/2 before not too long but may never happen if tooling is changed.
  9. Very nice. 116 is within my era but is a bit too quirky for my liking. Would like a 37/7 in Railfreight minus red stripe and same for a 47. 47018 would be nice as it had miniature ploughs for a while.

Good choice. Could we also have a provincial livery with just the 3 roof ribs (051-096) for a bit of variety? ( I know it would be slightly different tooling so would come at a different time to the 10 rib earlier ones).
  11. Very nice job mate.Shows what you can do with a bit of work.

I'd imagine West Country Skipper livery would be the more popular. Cornish China clay layouts etc etc. Original provincial Blue and GMPTE Orange/Brown are top of my list, but a Chocolate and Cream Skipper could also work for me, as they did migrate North from Devon/Cornwall fairly early on in thier lives after their short but unsuccessful stint down Southwest.
  13. From what I saw at Glasgow, the Blue and Grey MK 3's look very nice indeed.66738
  14. Oh yes. Not noticed that. Hmmm66738

Yes, the 142 project is still going ahead. See Charlie's comments on the Class 143 First Great Western thread a couple of days ago.66738
  16. Very intriguing! As well as this/these mystery new project(s), (hoping for a 141 rail bus!), the 144 mention has me hoping for an early representation of the unit in WYPTE Red and Cream. The 142 should be able to provide the correct interior, (3+2 bus seats).
  17. Would love Bachmann to do another flush front 45, and in particular a 45/1. Headlight would be very nice but without would also be ok. I was one of the lucky few to get a Modelzone faulty 45048 body from Warley some years ago. £5 or £6 if memory serves me right. Not sure what was wrong with them. Looks alright to me. There has got the be a reason why Bachmann have not independently produced one. Tooling issue or Modelzone owning the rights to the tooling are probably the reasons. It's a shame as they'd sell very well in my opinion. 66738
  18. Really nice! Real work horse livery. Very tempted. Well done Kernow. At the same time, I'm a little disappointed. I allow myself to get excited when these announcements come. Maybe this is the moment I get my 45/1 (flush front) or my 31/4 in blue. But no. The wait continues. As a side note, as much as I love all these 47's coming on the market, they are all flip up glass markers at one end and opaque discs the other. I'd like to see a new tooling of both ends with flip up glass lenses, or both opaque. Flush front one end and original inset the other. Loads of combinations to go at, but I know new tooling cost money, and different cab ends are still some way off. 66738
  19. So frustrating isn't it? They had an open goal in front of them and it seems they have some how spectacularly missed from 6 yards. Aghhhh! (Banging head against brick wall) 66738
  20. Yes please! Something like 313 with ploughs. One of the last to be active, and survives today in preservation.66738
  21. Wow. I doff my cap to you! Ya learn something everyday. 66738
  22. Was that one off in NSE actually Mk 2D FK 13575?66738
  23. I've wondered what the white dots were for, when doing a bit of research to see if it fitted in my era. How easy does the weathering come off? What method used? I've scrawled 'Graffiti/writing with finger in dirt' on a weathered GUV. Using a wooden tooth pick. Looks good. Fresh pristine paint is clearly on show under the muck, but don't know how easy it would be to get most of it off on a loco. 66738
  24. Don't quote me on it, but think the rot boxes were 31110 skinhead in Dutch, 31270 Weathered Blue headcode box (Mine took a while but finally succumbed) and the early Green one(Sorry don't have the D number or Hornby R number).66738
  25. Pretty sure R2571 was factory weathered not pristine.66738
