They were flangeless initially I believe and some were fitted with flanged centre drivers at a later date

I imagine there would be a variation in ride height between a full and empty tender and springs will weaken with age.

Were bricks sold by quantity or weight?
I would imagine weight of a particular type would be fairly consistent and it is easier to weigh 144 or 1000 bricks than count them.
