Currently trying to workout how the pickups work on a D Type Jag, with a couple of lotus and Ferrari single sweaters to follow. Only problem is, when I'm done I don't know if I will want to trust s 3 year old with them....

Was disappointed to find a mint boxed Bentley Blower was only a mint box containing random spare parts...

  2. To top a rubbish day, fairly sure I just killed a sound decoder

  3. Throughly depressed with the double slip building

Time to deploy the 3lb lump hammer. Got to the point of measuring a peco slip tonight it was going that badly

  4. Hornby King's wiring is such a mess of short circuits and shoddy quality. Tomorrow's job is to rip it all out and wire it myself!

    1. gwrrob

      gwrrob

Send it back to Hornby Rich.

And have to remove another set of Great Crest Western logos... I will write to them later and ask for a replacement set of tender wiring I think, hopefully will do the job (assuming the second batch is better made...)

In future I think all locos will be DCC fitted before I start work changing liveries and fitting new numbers

    3. bgman

      bgman

Good luck, my loco had been with them since 1st September ( not a King ) . I am now seriously considering other actions !

  5. Today's DCC fitting: one works, one fried, one won't fit and one god knows what's wrong

    1. Mikkel

      Mikkel

      Sounds like my colleagues.

  6. DCC chip fitted to a King, programmed and the loco won't work.....

Going to strip out the decoder and check again on DC tomorrow, I just find it very strange that it does all the usual noises etc when programming, acts as though it's successfully programmed and then doesn't work.

  7. Today I have a day off work to work on the layout, so naturally the whole morning I've wasted asleep after being up all night with the baby

      Not a model child?

  8. Despite vowing never to rebrand another Hornby great crest western model, I seem to have bought another King James

Have you given up waiting for the Hattons King then? I picked up a King Jimmy for under a ton, but it needs more work than thought to 1947-ise it! Top lamp-iron needs shifting for a start...

If they get rid of the stupid design on the number plate I will rethink maybe adding one, but having now got 2 Hornby Kings for the price of one DJM I'm quite happy.

Now to get rid of those logos....

In the end they were wrong. Sounds like it was actually a DBS freight stuck in a tunnel....

    3. Horsetan

      Horsetan

....so it refused to leave the tunnel?

Can't tell the colour of 6829 in the photo I'm working on due to the amount of weathering, but at least can see the G W R on the tender (partially obscured by the colour rail watermark

  11. Disappointed that my youngest's first journey on a train was an XC Voyager. A trip to the Dean Forrest is needed I think...

Pacer and a Voyager in one day. Combined age less than the age of the only decent train in the itinerary.

  12. Baby still not here, could have gone to scaleforum after all

My commiserations. I can't attend for family type reasons either. Hope the baby comes soon and all is well.

  14. Off to the hospital, hopefully it's third time lucky. This baby seems to be taking arrival time advice from Horbachjan....

Indeed it was, but King James was every bit as bad. In the end had to result to a degree of scraping to get it shifted. Hoping garnish will hide the ghost remains of the old letters...

      Horsetan

Maybe they're trying to stop you tampering with their tampos, so to speak....

A few salad leaves stuck to the sides should work wonders.

  16. Coach building plans scuppered after finding BSL ends instead of Comet with the kit, will have to wait for scaleforum....

  17. Was planning to make a start on my comet A20 today, before realising that the (eBay) kit doesn't have preformed sides. Guess I had to learn making a tumble home some time

Bit of rounded skirting board or rolling pin on a cutting mat. Attack with suitable carefulness. Advice available.

    2. The Fatadder

      The Fatadder

How does the rolling pin approach work

  18. Will be walking 30 miles on Saturday as part of a fund raising walk from Bristol to Plymouth for the children's hospital on Saturday. Starting to think I should have just written them a cheque...

    1. £1.38

      £1.38

      Do it in 2mm scale.

  19. Well the garage was far too hot for track laying, beer in the garden instead...

    1. Horsetan

      Horsetan

What happens if you do the beer stage first, then go on to track laying?

    2. The Fatadder

      The Fatadder

      Look at my previous layouts...

  20. Another Hornby Hawksworth break compo ordered at a bargain price, (but still don't have the GW thirds I actually need!)

  21. Looking forward to picking up a big order of track parts tomorrow and getting on with the layout. Just have to remember how to make switch rails...

  22. Finally given in and bought a Hornby King

    1. 6892 Oakhill Grange

      The Fatadder

It's for my OO project so no worries there. As for the other one, unless they get rid of that numberplate recess and seriously refine the lining over the 48xx not a chance!

  23. Finally given in and bought a Hornby

  24. Just realised the new bogie retention bolts I've fitted to my LMS 12 wheel diner, are exactly where the centre axle should be...

  25. Glad to have got 2 extra sheets of ply for free after they messed up the cutting, perfect for the final board that I wasn't planning to buy yet...

    1. bgman
