  1. They won't stay in service for ever maybe the DPS can spot hire a 55 to cover for a missing power car or two
  2. I read it that they are also planning to aquire a spare production HST power car and restore it to original condition. I guess if this is the case they could pair it with 41001 and a few Mk3s (half blue/grey the other half grey/blue?)
  3. oh ho ho ian, not sure what Andrea will make of that comment though
  4. Thanks to Diesel Dayz for allowing the 2-8-2 a guest appearance on Duke Street at this weekend's Derby Show raised a few eyebrows and even attracted the attention of Steve Flint B-)
  5. is frantically trying to get the 2-8-2 finished so I can do a show and tell at tomorrow's Derby Show

chassis is reunited with body - will it still work?

Yes it does, and is npw in one piece. Can I now say it's done?

  6. Yes, G King emailed me a pic of the BRM version, and I came to the same conclusion that it was a 9F with a wheelset removed. Who is to say which is right? Ok I'm working strictly to the Cox weight drawing, but with these neverwazzas there's scope for all
  7. I always knew that the second hand Sagami motor that I had installed in the 2-8-2 was, well, a bit weak. It ran hot even just connected to the gearbox. Now that I'm in the final assembly stage when it came to running in the assembled chassis following painting it was clear that it was just not up to the job. Thanks to artisan100 - Geoff at Comet Models a Mashima 1628 together with a new matching steel worm gear was supplied in doble quick time. I took the liberty of also ordering a 14mm flywheel which still fits inside the body. This was an expensive purchase (£27 including postage) but it really was a ha'poth of tar moment. I could not have a loco built and finished to the level that I have achieved then not have it run well. The Sagami will be used elsewhere no doubt. An extended running in session will follow, then it's refit the decoder and brakes - job done.
  8. browsing rmweb on my new x10 mini

The Sagami was always a bit weak, it got hot just running the gearbox - it has to run as well as it looks ;)

  12. £25 to £30 is still the going rate for a good nick Triang Brit (on eBay), but it does need a tender
  13. Rare? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Rare-Vintage-Triang-R259-Built-Britain-Britannia-/220778914796?pt=UK_Trains_Railway_Models&hash=item336772e3ec errr, no.
  14. OK, so I was in Mevagissey last week, so HAD to call at the World of Model Railways with #2 son for an hour or two. Some Spingside BR Head and tail lamps just jumped off the rack at me Group 4 for the interested - Well, it is a mixed traffic engine B) Gives you a good look at the other details added from the Brit detailing pack too
  15. I wasn't going to mention Mr LFs antics last year, glad that the MR crew wern't too put off by it all. Remember, no throwing stale croissants at the paying public

true, looks a tad dreary for the obby oss ;)

  21. hmmmmm That gate looks like a level crossing gate to me, which would suggest a road that runs smack into the warehouse/workshop. Maybe a different style of gate to suggest a railway boundary as intended?
  22. Once it's really finished, and I've not ruled out a very light weathering, I will do a big photoshoot ahead of a mag article I've got lined up
  23. Quick photo of the 2-8-2 before fitting of the brakes and rigging. Tender needs coal and a coupling, but that's about it really. Went a bit mad with the Brit detailing pack I got off eBay, fitted the screw link coupling and backing plate (if that's the word?) plus the steam heat pipe as well as the cylinder drains that I bought it for. The rest will go to the Duke of Gloucester that is to come B) Wonder if it still works? UPDATE: Couldn't resist taking this pic of the crew at work as it sat on my desk
  24. the 2-8-2 is tantalisingly close to being finished - only jobs left: fit NEM pocket mount to tender, coal tender, strip weathering off brake blocks and fit loco brakes :)
