  1. Tender is now black and waiting it's red buffer beam and lining out Actually, the loco body is done too, as are the bogies and deflectors. Time to start stripping down the chassis methinks EDIT: Deflectors are now on B)
  2. is spraying satin black paint today - Tender and bodyshell are done, deflectors are baking off on the radiator. Time to strip down the chassis ;)

Had to be done, drove a 11 plate hire car yesterday, got back in mine to go home and thought "urgh"

  5. I find that the front pony works for me as built, no springing or weighting needed, but then it's never going to be belting round a layout
  6. Grey primer that is - it's a lovely sunny day really Various chassis parts have been stripped down and given a coat of Hycote grey primer ready for some satin black The loco and tender bodies have also been treated to a coat or two, but are hardening off in a darkened room
  7. Spent a pleasant hour at Bedford Sidings taking lots of photos of UK1 Rail Grinder, I was supposed to be doing a H&S inspection. Nice day though

  8. As I said, it's all a matter of perception. I bought an item of eBay recently and was grumpy when it dod not arrive within a few days. Went onto eBay and it turns out the seller has a long lead time on the listing for dispatch, did I read this before getting grumpy?
  9. has just wafted a can of grey primer at the 2-8-2 bodyshell, not too much rework needed :)

  10. Forgive me if this seems a little simplistic, but I think the problem here is one of perception of what the service provides. To me a pre-order is simply a way to ensure that you get one of a limited edition production, from that supplier. I would not expect it to guarantee special treatment and get it before anyone else etc - You're not paying any more are you? As long as credit cards are not charged until the normal point of getting ready for despatch all a pre-order does is allow you to put your hand up in advance and say "please Sir!" Anyway, that's my take on it
  11. I see he eventually sold it for $2700 (nearly 17 hundred quid), on his third relist I think. Glad I'm not paying his fees Still, if he picked it up for a couple of hundred from some old widow ......
  12. Has just breathed life into an origianl release Triang Rocket - It Lives! Now, where can I fit that decoder ........

The smoke unit will not be connected up, too much current needed, the wire is just pushed up into the chimney so that it can be reconneected in future. I have a TCS-Z2 in hand ....

  13. Thanks all, it is a bit weird I must say to be accosted by stangers (ok RMwebbers!) at the Nottm show with kind comments about my work As a postscript, the DCC ready Brit chassis I have bought for the forthcoming DoG project has lubricators etc, I might fit these yet ......
  14. it's actually 2mm shorter than a Brit. Yeah, lined black and I have the nameplates already. Should be able to pop over sometime to see if it'll run on Duffield, as long as Derby arn't at home
  15. Has just used an old X04 carbon brush to reline one for a Triang Rocket motor, lots of carbon filings on the desk!

Enough carbon to make a footprint?

  16. and the winner of the crassest bandwagon jumping of the decade? ... http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Portable-Geiger-Counter-and-Radiation-Detector-/200587692862?pt=UK_BOI_Medical_Lab_Equipment_Lab_Equipment_ET&hash=item2eb3f54b3e
  17. As promised here's the 2-8-2 in all her unpainted glory so you can see what has been added to the basic Hornby green mouldings Now, where's that grey primer .......
  18. is monopolising the Showcase at the moment ....

  19. Sad to say but the final bit of detailing for the 2-8-2 has defeated me. The 2-8-2 will not have lubricator/slide support brackets. The lubricators will be glued to the bodyshell and so lubricator linkages will not be featured either. I just don't have the time/patience/skills to fabricate these brackets from scratch, the tolerances involved getting it all to fit are too tight for my rough and ready try it and see approach. The good news is that the painting can start as soon as I've took a load of photos to show the loco with all the modifications etc on show. The fact that this loco should have been completed last year and that I'm about to order a Duke of Gloucester kit from Golden Arrow has also focussed my attention on finishing this project.
  20. scored a DCC ready Brit chassis off eBay last night - Golden Arrow here I come :)

  21. Had some 7mm point tie bars and fishplates drop through the door today from C&L - only ordered yesterday :)

British postal services at its best. (-:

  22. I disagree, it's fantastic what you are doing. We all have a joke about how our so called accurate scale models have a dirty great electric motor where the diesel engine should be, you are getting closer to an actual miniature of the real thing. Now, about that diesel engine
  23. did I say blue? that'll be black
  24. Yes, a trip to the Steam Works is in order, if only to replace the (very) noisy X04 motor. The little pug will eventually be refinished in either BR black or L&YR blue
  25. Oh if I only had the storage space (and the spare cash)
