  1. Saw one in the distance on a Dewsbury-Hope cement empties last week or the week before.
  2. The small ones look like the Denparts wagons used to distribute parts for diesel engines to depots.
  3. A bit of photoshop and that might clean up nicely, even if you turn it black and white?
  4. Similar thing appeared in a GW railwayana auction in Nov 2006 according to this: https://www.gwra.co.uk/auctions/british-railways-no-4-fire-appliance-ex-swindon-wo-2006nov-0430.html Described as "British Railways No.4 Fire Appliance, ex Swindon Works. An unusual item. Sold for £20" It had a different lid, taller and printed with: B.R. Take small quantities of liquid in hand cup and dash forcibly on seat of fire And a second auction item, from "The Saleroom" https://www.the-saleroom.com/en-gb/auction-catalogues/horners-valuers-and-auctioneers/catalogue-id-srho10060/archivelot-82827ed9-2c2d-4cb7-b22f-a9f200d2bee0 Described as "A RAILWAY GWR NO. 4 FIRE APPLIANCE (COLL" Auction Date: 23 Feb 2019 It also has the tall lid with the same instructions as the one in the other auction. But the photo for this one has "G.W.R." in the position where the OP's had "B.R.", so it looks like a GW design continued by Swindon under BR, answering my earlier question in post 3 above!
  5. Do we know what B.R. means here? I wouldn't guarantee it means British Railways.
  6. Comments on flickr suggest it’sthe Birkenhead-Margate service with 12 coaches. Not bad for a little loco.
  7. Last time I was on the underground, there were announcements about donating to a homeless charity instead of giving direct to people on the train or in the subways.
  8. I think the leaf jetting is only water even for the real thing
  9. Don’t suppose they’re just training runs?
  10. Don’t think the container trains run any more, despite a regular shipping run there, the A2B Future - look for it on one of the vessel finder websites. The concrete rings run at night usually, plus a few (sometimes none) aggregates trains in the daytime. There’s also aviation fuel for Heathrow (to Colnbrook, but Colnbrook also receives some of the aggregate trains). Source: eagle-eyed watching of realtimetrains* while in lockdown with my aged mother in Hoo! *try searching for Cliffe signal nk509 to see what goes up and down, although that also catches trains to/from Cliffe sea dredged aggregates works which don’t traverse Grain Crossing. When trains run, they don’t often get reports in RTT east of Cliffe until after the event. here’s today: https://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/search/detailed/gb-nr:CLFFD12/2022-08-03/0000-2359?stp=WVS&show=all&order=wtt and for yesterday, I make it 7 trains in 24 hours to or from Grain, plus 8 more to or from Cliffe
  11. Bit of a caption/photo mismatch on that story at the moment. If the station design is like that, then inflation may not be a problem...
  12. See also this thread (edit: despite the missing photos on a lot of pages):
  13. I caught something similar once from Didcot or Reading. Seemed like a long crawl going north, as it was diesel via Manchester to Preston before picking up an electric.
  14. Thanks people. Thought you were on the platform in that pic. Must be the heat.
  15. Is that view looking north at Bempton station? We were there puffin and gannet hunting a few weeks back and I thought the platform was the coast side of the train.
  16. The wagon number is on the flickr caption: DE301595, coded ZGW
  17. Presumably you've had a look in the Medway archives in the old library in Bryant Road? Fair bit of ancient printed info in there and helpful staff. I grew up there and still have links to the area, so it'll be interesting to see your model. Passed the site most days on the way to school, but it was Winget by then. Gratuitous link to archive photo of Winget offices: https://apps.medway.gov.uk/apps/medwayimages/details.asp?pg=58&pga=346&searchtype=&search=strood
  18. The 02xxxx series was a BR internal user series for the LM region. 08xxxx was the SR, can't remember the rest, but RCTS can, e.g.: https://features.rcts.org.uk/carriage-conundrums/internal-user-coaching-stock-c1970-1997/ or LTSV here: https://www.ltsv.com/w_ref_numbers.php
  19. You forgot to mention the "Beware of the Leopard" sign!
  20. Presumably at an angle like that they were actually turning it 90° rather than just selecting a different track on the other side.
  21. I’m not 100% sure, but I’d have guessed mid-late 70s for the photo. I started spotting locally (Medway) late 70s, and taking an interest in wagons from about 1980 and only remember trains of mostly Grampus (and the odd ?Lamprey) for dirty ballast. Not ex-traffic wooden opens. edit: the car park is part of the Anglesea centre (now called the Thamesgate centre) which was opened in 1974 according to http://edithsstreets.blogspot.com/2015/08/riverside-south-bank-east-of-tower_30.html - presumably both built together.
