  1. Is it possible to configure a Lenz 1024 decoder to run on DC ? I purchased an HO Proto GP9 from Rails second hand and the decoder is hard wired. My US layout and locos are all analogue, and, having no desire to remove the decoder, I need to know if there is a CV that can be changed to make it run on DC only. This would also make it easier to resell in the distant future, should I wish to.
  2. Has anyone encountered problems using non sound DCC decoders on this loco? When I run my D6703 ( which otherwise runs great in DC and DCC) with just one other DCC fitted loco (it does not matter which one), after about 2 mins or so , the controller - a NEC Powercab that has up to now been fine - momentarily cuts out and the speeds are set to zero for both the locos that were running. The decoder fitted is a 21 pin Dapol Imperium. When D6703 is not running and 2-3 others are , there is no problem. Is there some incompatibility with the 37 and certain types of decoder? I would add this is a smallish layout, 11' by 6' twin track main line arrangement with dead frogs throughout.

  4. I would like to repeat my request for a class 22 Diesel. Short , cute and suitable for layouts large and small, and fits nicely with all the other WR types now available in RTR O gauge. You have the drawings,data etc so come on Dapol, whats the problem! NB. these locos worked all over the south midlands, forest of Dean and Thames valley- Oxford and possibly Banbury, as well as Bristol and the west of England

I am sure that Brush would have built a prototype given time but the BR freight business at the time was facing commercial pressure to improve reliability , which was never gonna happen with class 56's, and wanted machines now. So flying in the face of hard earned experience after the 1950s pilot scheme was ditched in favour of building everything at once-with expensive consequences. So a new class untried was wheeled out in large numbers. Is this where we talk about history repeating itself?
  6. How about a 4mm scale D40 class 'Gordon Highlander'? one preserved, plus tons of liveries to choose from , and its a very handsome Pre Grouping loco whose popularity transcends some of the more obscure prototypes,and unlike many of these one-offs, was a success in engineering terms too.
  7. A BR version with large Scottish Region style cab numbers would tempt me into buying!
  8. Rob Many thanks for that, it looks larger somehow, small yet perfectly formed then. My own empire is 11x10 ft. Is this a case that 2-3 small layouts gives more pleasure and interest than a single medium roundy roundy? Or would a roundy continous run be something you would not contemplate? Paul

  10. Looks dreadful; clunky wheels , dodgy chimney, odd shade of green, and undersized cab numerals. A rich collectors delight though, maybe like the Marklin warship of the 70s (?) , afflicted by similar problems
  11. An excellent show with good variety of layouts and some trade support. Parking seemed to be OK too.The people were lovely, friendly and helpful. The major problem with the show is that it is slightly too small for the number of visitors involved. Talking to officials on the door it seems that clubs/ people organising exhibtions are finding it increasingly difficult to find suitable venues
  12. Must be a NBL class 22 diesel hydraulic then, perfect for all size O gauge layouts!
  13. I received my model of 7800 this week, and it looks terrific. The only fly in the ointment for me, is trying to remove the tender body when installing or changing the DCC decoder. Although the four screws needed to remove it are clearly shown in the manual that comes with it, they are very tricky to remove. Accurascale do advise against doing this too often due to the possible damage of the details around them. The screws are also in two different sizes as well. A neater arrangement needed for future steam engines, please Accurascale. Performance wise , comparing to another 4-6-0 steamer, I would say it was about the same as the recent Bachmann standard class 5.
  14. A D40 class Gordon Highlander is a beaut with several livery variations and a long history. There is one preserved so data,drawings ,scans etc no problems. Being Scottish will be a draw for many of us too, me included.
  15. Preorederd two, but looking at the DB red, Colas etc, oh my, may as well file for bankruptcy now!!
  16. I have a smallish (10'x8') continous/ roundy roundy OO layout and I have wired it with insulfrog points . I can operate it in either DC mode using a very old HM Duette or as a DCC operation using an NCE Powercab. The points are manually operated. Both work OK, but can members help with a neat way of quickly switching between the 2 as I have both DC and DCC engines, and I don't wish to bear the cost of converting everything to DCC , or going DC and losing its features. In particular what type of switches can I use? I would also like to switch to a DCC program track as well , so a simple and easy type of 3 way switching is required. Has anyone out there done this?
  17. A real beauty and ticks many boxes is the steam (!) Class D40 Gordon Highlander. One exists so it can be scanned etc, several liveries pre group,LNER various, BR various. Well travelled too... Come on you know you want too
  18. A class 22 in O gauge. no apologies for repetition.
  19. The flanges look a little deep/big, not unlike the TT120 models recently introduced.
  20. A county 10XX , with/without double chimney. Current models are very old and have their origins at the early Dapol company too....so...
  21. A Class 22 diesel, perfect for branches main lines and everything else! It a big missing gap in the O gauge hydraulic fleet -apart from the D600s of course, though one of them would not go amiss either. Please beat Heljan and Dapol to it, pretty please too!
  22. It would be nice if more spares were available for the O gauge locos. I need a cab glazing set for a class 42 warship. Gaugemaster tell me that they wont get any more spares for that model until the next release of the model. Which may be never. Anyone out there help? Paul
  23. A class 22 D63xx in O gauge would be a perfect choice for WR fans, small or micro layouts and except for the D600s complete the RTR fleet of Hydraulics
