I have seen the light ....

I bought a load of long leaded 6v bulbs at the Derby Show this year and last night I started to add a few to the layout. I made some 3mm holes in the back panels of the "Bus Garage" and poked the bulbs through. Then followed a good hour playing around with combinations of series/parallel wiring to get the level of illumination right. I ended up with using 5 in series which with the 18-19v laptop PSU voltage available gives a nice warm glow to the building. Not permanently wired up yet, will ha

The Weymouth Aftermarth

Hello Everyone, well, Gary and I are safely back from Weymouth (and the layout too!), It has been a fantastic weekend, the Weymouth show by comparison is not the biggest of shows, but it serves its purpose well. The people are wonderful and the layout ran without error. It;s been a really great weekend - even the wee lasses celebrating a birthday in Weatherspoons were nice too!   I parted with a little bit of money, a GWR green railbus "thing" took my fancy, along with a couple of N Gauge

Post exhibition pack away

Back from Cheltenham. Great little show and a number of RMWebbers evident. I've really enjoyed playing with Weston this weekend and on the whole, the layout behaved itself. Just one non functioning electromagnet to sort out before we're out and about at Expo EM South in a month's time. I didn't take any pictures of the show but some folks did. Have a look on the Cheltenham show exhibition page for updates.   Retail therapy was limited to a Chivers MDV 20T mineral and a nearly new Ratio Van B.

Been at the in laws this weekend and got the farther in law to letter half a dozen locos, unfortunatly I told him to put the wrong size LNER transfers on the loco.     The body needs a bit of a clean up, (black paint would not set), if it cleans up OK then I will leave alone or I might try and life the transfers and put smaller ones on. If not it might be a repaint job. All the other locos were fine I just made a mistake on this one.

8. Another Extension For A Service Area

The OO Garden Shed By John Geeee   I was becoming dissatisfied with the facilities available to the terminus. I wanted a nearby turntable to turn locomotives but I did not have the room. So another extension was required, "but thats the last one!" said Mrs Geeee. The start of the last lap

New Heys final completion entered its final phase today with the construction to painting stage of the l 3 remaining signals, the up advance home, up home, and the down home.   All 3 oddball signals no fancy gantry stuff for the signal enthusiasts Im afraid, but they are models of what actually was there - a 45 foot lattice post for the down advance starter, The up advance starter was a tall wooden post, and the up home a stubby little number designed for sighting under Two Bridges Road overbr

7. The High Street Experience.

The OO Garden Shed   By John Geeee   I wanted to do something to add to the scene around the terminus station. I got the wood out again and added about another 8 inches to the left hand side baseboards so that I could add a row of high street shops and at the top end some kind of factory.       To cover the baseboard joins I put down some black card and stuck it with some spray adhesive. 4mm/00 Falcon Brass ROD, The Boiler & Smokebox

Well onto the boiler and smokebox, the boiler even comes pre rolled! ah the luxury from Falcon Brass. In all seriousness it is rolled nicely and is a very crisp and clean etch.   I started by soldering the seam of the boiler tube then added an etched disc in the centre to hold its shape, after that I rolled up tightly two pieces of Lead (Courtesy of the roofers:rolleyes:) weighing 150 grams each which were then placed either side of the centre disc, when happy I soldered a further disc at eac

Backdated Monty's figures

Off with their heads! Farthing is set in Edwardian times, but good figures from this period are not easy to come by. I've therefore been doing a bit of backdating to the excellent Monty's range of 1930s-50s figures from Dart Castings. Getting ready for Leeds this weekend!

Hi As we are at Leeds this weekend (and off to the Lakes for a couple of days from tomorrow - Great timing!!) Blogs and dogs, whatever next?

Never one to run from a challenge I thought it was about time I did some of this blogging lark. Like many I had nothing to do while RMWeb was in transit so I had to resort to modelling! Amongst the many projects in flight at present I have been spending odd moments finishing up the greyhound stadium for my local club's OO layout. Unloading the delivery.

Knocked up a Dapol mineral wagon kit as a static for the coal merchant. Part loaded with a figure inside shovelling the load out.Thomas Muir's son perhaps. Also looks like they have invested some money to help load coal sacks a bit easier.   I don't know the origin of these bits as they came in a box of stuff a friend was clearing out many years ago.

2500 Gallon Tender

I finally finished making and fitting the lamp sockets to the 2500 gallon tender, so it is now ready for painting. The engine and tender have been scrubbed with 'Bar Keepers Friend' and warm water, and are now drying after rinsing in cellulose thinners. In the meantime, I'm trying to warm the garage sufficiently to get a coat of primer on before it gets dark and the temperature drops. This was the state of the tender and its chassis a little earlier this afternoon.         Nick

The Timetable   The branch loco has been a 517 and then a 48xx/14xx. The branch is operated using a staff and ticket system.   5:15am: Early turn fireman books on, fires up and moves loco from shed to water and coal up. The only modelling I have actually managed to do in the last few weeks comes in the form of completing and priming this Austin box van. The light wasn't really up to work in progress shots, not that a touch of filling and rubbing down makes impressive viewing! It does reveal my approach to priming/run down/undercoat however. With resin kits this is quite important as however good the castings are, the odd pinhole bubble is all but inevitable, so after a (very) thorough wash, a thin coat of grey
