Roland, the headless Thompson gunner...
-
It's not that well known that Beachy Head ran in Scotland and joined the pre-grouping foursome on special excursions up here. Or at least that's the excuse I have for buying it...

On the '68 theme, just looking at some of Paul Riley's pictures of 8Fs over Copy Pit during the 67/68 winter. Wow.
-
Feeling rather pleased with myself after getting an ancient Hornby L1 chassis to work, ready to go under my similarly ancient GEM D30.
-
Have my Union Mills J38 sat in front of me, next to my Bachfar J39. No real comparison in detail terms but by god the J38 is a slogger.
-
Sat on a Turbostar in Aberdeen and able to connect to GWR Wifi - training HST nextdoor!
-
Just listened to the Final Speech from "The Great Dictator", quite possibly for the first time ever. Powerful stuff indeed.
-
6 years on from release I've finally caved in and bought a couple of "Tommys". Not sure how they'll fit on an ScR layout mind....
-
56 hours to get from Oban to Aberdeen. New record!
-
Stevie Nicks is like Led Zeppelin for me. Don't listen to them for ages but then "rediscover" them and can't understand why I don't listen to them more often. Amazing music, no other word is suitable.

Mildly amazed to see one of my lads produce an old school STG PRIV pass for renewal today, not only that but his previous pass (issued 2017) is still a hardbacked card and states "2nd Class, for use on all British Rail and Sealink services". Privitisation has obviously passed some things by, even nearly 30 years on!

Does Modelmaster Jackson Evans still exist? An order placed in November and about half a dozen emails and attempts by phone since to make contact and nothing.

On an IEP from Temple Meads to Paddington, first trip in one. If the Western is getting these things and we're getting their HSTs I know who's come off better in that deal - sterile, cold interiors, average ride and seats only marginally more comfy than a park bench.

The interior design is poor, but that's not a huge drama to fix. The 50 shades of grey make it feel cold and sterile, and the most comfortable part of the seats is the headrest/antimaccasar. Unless we broke down, it would appear we changed to Leckie at Swindon - acceleration was impressive after that.
-
They are very much ICCEs - Inter City Curate's Eggs with some good points and some bad. One good one is doing away with the high seat backs of GW HSTs - they are awful things and the slippery leather seats in 1st have also gone thank goodness.
PS No 'lectric at Swindon yet, you're about a year too early for that.

Sleeper to Euston tonight and Bristol tomorrowm then northbound sleeper again tomorrow night. First ever trip on the GWML to boot, so time to see what these Western people keep raving about....

Currently reading "The Guga Hunters" by Donald Murray. Another way of life all but gone...
-
Re-reading "Each a glimpse...." plus "...and gone forever" to remind myself just how good they are. Even her indoors is impressed with them...
-
Until now I hadn't realised just how closely related an HR small Ben and an LSWR T9 truly were...
-
Currently admiring a Jones Goods in HR green alongside Cardean in Caley Blue....
-
Man on state benefits to marry foreigner and bring her to live in the UK at taxpayers expense. That's the DM headline we probably won't read tomorrow...
-
Currently having an evening working my way through the back catalogue of Fleetwood Mac, tomorrow Led Zeppelin. It's oddly easy to forget just how great they were.
-
The NBR stud is coming on leaps and bounds now: C15, D34, J35, 2 x J36, J37 plus another two kits (J35 and J37) to build. Bound to be a full NBR RTR range announced soon then....
-
After literally years of searching I've finally got my hands on an NB Models J37 kit.
-
Currently mulling over whether a Bachmann J39 chassis/motor can be made to fit under an NB models J37 body.

Am sure I saw a FGW HST set in Aberdeen carriage sidings this morning, was I seeing things?
