  1. Blowers final game and it looks like it'll finish two days early - typical England!

Have to admit that I didnt realise it was My Dear Old Thing's finale. I spent the day occasionally visiting the on-line updates. If I'd known, I'd have had TMS on all day.

For some of the best bits, have a listen to this: a comilation made by 5Live/TMS in 2013:

  2. Bought Mickey Mouse 2MT in both 2mm and 4mm version today, smashing little locos and very impressed.

An Ivatt 2MT 2-6-0 never offends...

  3. I wonder what it must have been like at Lime Street, 49 years ago today at 1959 precisely...

  4. Just watched the "Road to Perdition" for the first time since it came out - what a great film. I didn't appreciate the symbolism and wonderful score the first time round.

  5. Max of 15C today, heavy rain showers and latterly thunder. Not sure where this supposed heatwave is taking place...

Much further north than that - (Sc).

Can we have some of that?

No its what I have at the moment here in Melbourne Winter! Brrr give me a heat wave any day!

  6. Watching "Kb Country" again for the umpteenth time, great footage and a great soundtrack of things as they were.

      The Blue Streak

I was in the area last August after fresh snowfall, the mountains, rivers and frozen lakes were simply breathtaking. Still signs of the steam era to be seen at plaves likes Arthurs Pass. It's a great clip.

      It's a magnificent place - 15 years since I was last there though :-(

  7. Currently listening to 60528 slogging it's way past Steele Road with a fitted freight...

  8. I should go through the stock cupboard more often - I keep making new discoveries. Today's being a Bachy BR K3 which defies explanation as to origin.

      LNERGE

I seem to have the opposite. Lord alone knows where my other large independent snow plough is. I know I had two as I have a photo of them each end of a 26.

I read that as going through your sock cupboard.

  9. Spent an otherwise quiet day watching the Godfather films in sequence. I'd always thought they were good, but watching them like that makes you appreciate that they are in fact great.

  10. If local time was actually supposed to be an hour later then the sun would rise accordingly.

  11. Bought myself the gloss version of the P2 and it looks excellent, matt just doesn't seem right for a loco like that!

  12. HST, 91, 92 and 66/73 haulage tomorrow. Not sure if any of them interest me all the same. Still, a quick stop in York to gaze upon some pre grouping magnificence shall make up for it.

  13. There are embarassing batting collapses and then there are horrific batting collapses....

.....and then there are England batting collapses!

  14. 50 years ago today SS BRITISH CROWN exploded and sank in Umm Said with the loss of 19 men.Old BP men never forget.

  15. Currently aboard the XC HST set on charter to VTEC. Much more comfortable than the refurbished sets and the power sockets actually work. The coach lettering/formation is confusing a lot of the punters though....

  16. Off to listen to a Paxman Valenta tomorrow...

What kind of music do they play?

Lovely - sadly missed I can still see passengers wincing as they departed - one end first then a double dose from the rear.

Is that what Jeremy is doing now? I do like a nice Vienetta but they were a lot quieter in my day...

  17. Off to listen to a Paxman Valenta tomorrow...

  18. Thanks to a recent arrival from Merseyside today, I now require a lot more 21t hoppers...

  19. Just found this on flickr: https://www.flickr.com/photos/pinkwalkern/8233952269. Quite a photo.

      Thanks Michael; poignant shot that.

Thanks from me too. I used to travel with mother every school holidays on the 'Elizabethan' or the 'Y.Pullman'. Very happy memories. She used to give me a shilling to give to the driver if he was on time!

  20. Currently aboard yet another 3 hour plus Aberdeen-Glasgow service. Seeing as the journey time is the same as 1966 you'd think they could at least do the decent thing and provide an A4 with 6 on instead of a 170...

    1. scottystitch

      scottystitch

Alas, the A4s had the benefit of running along the "fast" route. I shudder to think how they'd have performed on the NBR tracks......

Yes, I always think that the Manchester-Liverpool timings could be improved if they built half a dozen Pollitt singles.

  21. Now getting seriously tempted to order a late crest Q6, even though it's slightly off region. Must be all them years spent in Saudi Shields.

Seen a photo of one running light over the Royal Border In '62. Looks like they got as far as Berwick on occasion.

      Suits me just fine that!

Well it would look good alongside my recently acquired J35 and detailed J83!

  22. DPD have "delivered" a parcel to a "neighbour" who isn't my neighbour and I've no idea of the location of the photo taken. No card either. Brilliant.

UPS couldn't find a 150 year old house ("is it a new build?") in a group of 8 houses surrounded by half a mile of fields in either direction. Twice. Despite having directions and my phone number just in case.

Some drivers are on drugs and randomly deliver parcels to anywhere they fancy - I do believe..

    4. Bon Accord

Finally got my parcel yesterday afternoon by spending a couple of hours comparing the image they'd sent me of my "neighbours" door with those doors on houses with similar sounding street names - finally found it after much frustration and marched off to collect. No thanks whatsoever to DPD who have not been in contact since I raised the initial issue.

  23. Come on GTFC! What a result!

Well done Grimsby, also North Ferriby promoted to the Conference, Just need Hull to get back in to the Premiership. It's looking good for Humberside ( Prefer Lincolnshire and East Yorkshire )

  24. Watched Barry Lyndon this evening for the first time in many years and was reminded what a great film it truly is.

  25. Only just noticed that real J72s didn't have balance weights so the Bachmann model is prototypically accurate in that sense, this after many years of assuming otherwise.

Good spot! Hadn't noticed that before. :-)
