The extra hatch is for the lighting switch, 2 battery charge sockets and the jump start terminals, 46s didnt have them because they are 110v machines whereas 45s were unique being 220v.

Some 45s had 6 battery charge sockets.........................

Seeing how folks have said about a lack of sealed beam versions, or them going for silly prices on eBay, is this what they were looking for??

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/144060437234

Currently £79, although here is just under 18 hours left to bid!

Those days have gone.

Starvation is over.

A few weeks ago rails were discounting them to c£120 new, theres new 45041’s for £125 on ebay.

Despite the wild predictions of global demand, its 1 peak type in 1 livery... once everyones bought 1, thats it... the rest will take a while whilst the +1’s think about it.

Whilst a lovely model, class 45’s are just not as popular as EE diesels.

45/1’s I suspect we will see a similar “peak” in demand before sitting around if too many are made.

Looking at the advert for this with Kadee's fitted reminded me that I keep forgetting to ask a question, are the current 45's now fitted with correct height NEM sockets?

I've got 2 older ones that are a complete pain with Kadee's and some of the current prices may tempt me to sell the old ones and upgrade if the NEM issue is corrected.

Many Thanks

Steve,

Most auctions on eBay sit at a price most of us would love to buy the item for until the final minute of the listing. It’s just how eBay works.

Don’t I know it - I lost a Bachmann Ixion by 20p (for £56!!) and the previous one sold for £78.

“Plain Jane” green Bachmann class 45/46 models in green have sold for £170, £87.09, £90 and £167 (chipped)… currently I see £129.95 and two starting at £95…

Meanwhile another Ixion sits at a starting bid of £75 whilst a retailer has it listed BIN for £144.97 (which seems a bit ambitious given the winning bids in recent listings!!)

As for Bachmann blue sealed beam “Peaks”…  £11.86 (with central high density light) and £19.34 (without) …

A Bachmann blue class 40 sold for £155 recently too…

But it seems that a sub-£100 Bachmann “Peak” is a possibility!!

The discrepancy in price will be due in part to the fact there are two generations of Bachmann Peak, the original which used the original Mainline/Replica body on a new central motored chassis and the later, completely re-tooled version. The earlier version can be identified by the fact that the buffers are incorrectly mounted on the body rather than the bogies.

Also consider that on first released of the new tooled version, the cab nose seam line was missing, which puts downward pressure on price... I used s/h 45114’s for chassis upgrades on my older Replica/Bachmann ones, worked out less than £15 a go at one point.. just lob off the buffers from the old body, sell off the mainline chassis / 114 body.

I don't doubt the numbers you quote are correct, but they do seem to be towards the "daft" end of the spectrum.

One thing I've been noticing in recent times is that a price one day is no indicator of a price for the same item the next. There are in my view still some real bargains to be had off ebay, provided one has a bit of patience. Even more so if chassis swaps, servicing and renumbering hold no fears!

How about £48? It was a tatty Green D67 and I probably spent same again on paint transfers and plates but it now looks like this … ok still no nose seam but it’s going elsewhere.,, and how about the holy grail of a GFYE Class 45?

Lovely modelling Phil, goes to show what can be done with the Bachmann model in the right hands. I especially like No. 64. Did you modify the centre headcodes? I've often thought they didn't look quite right on Bachmann FYE models but they look pretty convincing on yours.

Apart from the cab window rain strip being of a continuous arc (which to be honest, is how it appears on the real thing unless viewed from close up), Bachmann's model looks like a peak. All that is required is some modelling to sort out the detail errors on certain variants - I have a lot of work to do on my fleet!!!

From the samples shown, Heljan's new model may be more refined and have less common detail errors across the sub classes being modelled, but it will never look right to my eyes - especially with the almost 'EE' profile to the front cab windows.

Wonder if 45 060 will have the seal beam upgrades to the front details, sadly 020 didn’t.

I'd put money on them being exactly the same tooling. Unfortunately I can't see Bachmann revisiting the different peak variants and brining them up to scratch. A lot of customers won't even know the nose end grilles / lamp irons are wrong.

It's taken them long enough to revisit and upgrade the much in demand marker light peak, and even then they went for the 45/0 rather than a 45/1, and with no upgrade to the chassis / buffer beam detail.

45060 is a split headcode peak. The catalogue number is the giveaway, it is 32-677B, 677 being the serial number for the split headcode blue version from the current tool set. 32-677A was 45 120 (no alterations being made to reflect the ETH numbered version chosen; 32-677 was 45 053, the final Class 45 to retain split headcodes.

Think I have managed to complete my full line up of BR Blue 'Peak' headcode variations .

Left to right, Class 44 / 2x Class 45 / Class 46 / Class 45

Would love the oddball 44009 if tooling allowed for it, collectors club special anyone?

Sure I once saw a photo of a Class 45 with clear round lenses fitted (Class 47 style), anyone familiar with that or any other different nose end arrangements?

Not too difficult to do 44009 if you really have the need!

Olivias Trains do the side grilles, see below for my effort at 44010 in green, and spare bodies are often available on the likes of Ebay, so you could cut and shut a new bonnet end .

I do still need to add nameplates to my effort, plus a bit of black card behind the grilles. My starting point was a 44008 bodyshell in blue, and I've scribed the missing line round the top of the bonnets. Also added the central watertank made from plasticard.
