bartram108 203
So if the wagons are 'tippled' separately then why do they have rotary couplings?

That is a foreign version you are seeing. The Ravenscraig version were pulled through in a rake and each individual wagon was rotated whilst still coupled to rest of the rake. It was a time saving exercise I think, that worked very well. Stephen 1

Stephen Ironically, on the Consett Iron Ore trains, the PTAs took far longer to unload than the wagons they replaced, an entire train of which could be unloaded in seconds due to the side doors and the gantry they unloaded over.
lyneux 1,448
If you want to see the UK ones in operation with the mules and the rotary couplings then Railfreight Today Scotland (Volume 3) is what you want to watch. https://www.telerail.co.uk/railway-dvds-telerail-titles/rail-freight-today-boxed-sets/rail-freight-today-box-set-1-volumes-1-5 Modern Railways April 1974 also has an article with photos and a drawing of the tippler. I have scans but obviously not going to share online! If you are seriously interested in information regarding the rotary tippler then send me a PM as I have been amassing information on this over the past 7-8 years with a view to making a working model. rembrow 1,039
Just received my 2 sets of Yeoman PTAs, inner and outer. Beautiful models, with the level of detail we've come to expect from Accurascale. We must give them praise for another excellent model, but more importantly, their ability to produce multiple livery versions and packs of multiple models, with different running numbers, all released at the same time. I had one small problem, one of the inner wagons in my 'outer' pack, wouldn't couple. I narrowed it down to one wagon and found one of the buckeye couplers was the wrong way round. Easy fix, but if you have the same problem, worth checking this first.

Already they got to 2 miles from me when they went from Felixstowe to your warehouse, now they've gone on a tour having been sent to Royal Mails north west England distribution centre, then overnight, while I slept, they got within 300 metres of me, as a Royal Mail distribution lorry took them past me on the A12 to Chelmsford, 45 miles south. Will my heartache never end. So what's the plan for tomorrow, take them past my door again and leave them in Norwich!!! Oh thats nothing. I ordered some PKP coaches, from a shop in Poland, they sent me tracking number, after 2 weeks they had not arrived. i checked the tracking.., it went to Krakow, Warsaw, LHR, LGW, BVI, Road Town (Tortola), BVI, LGW, LHR and then entered the Royal Mail System. Took 4 weeks. on the address label, in Polish they put: Brytyjskie Wyspy Which translated was British Islands, which someone in Gatwick or Heathrow translated as British Virgin Islands. black and decker boy 4,151
The first of my orders turned up today - the Yeoman version. very impressed with the wagons, (a long held dream) and especially the printing over the ribs. Whilst the free load is appreciated, I must say it’s a bit basic and lacks character 4

So in 1991, I guess that would be stuff fitted for push/pull: 33/1s and 73s plus 86/87/90/91? Anything else? Also, I thought that the British passenger buckeye and the freight version were not compatible? See Jo's comment here: Edited November 23, 2020 by lyneux

I tried to reach the microswitch through the slot but even the smallest Marklin screwdriver can't reach in far enough to operate the switch. I then tried a narrow probe but all that did was push upwards the little black box next to the battery. I can't get the tail light to work at all. My wife, who has over 20 years model railway experience with Markin products also tried it, and was unsuccessful, she says this is Chinese crap. I hope you can prove her wrong as Accurascale has never disappointed me previously. Edited November 23, 2020 by cessna152towser
RMweb Gold McC 1,205 Posted November 23, 2020 RMweb Gold Share Posted November 23, 2020 As you can see, the switch is on the surface of the underside of the wagon - no 'reach' issues needed? 1
cessna152towser 456
Difficult to illustrate as my pocket camera lacks a macro setting, but there is no switch flush with the surface of the slot on the underside of the wagon. Otherwise I am very pleased with the wagons. They run well and the knuckle couplings even accept being propelled through Peco Setrack curved point (second radius 17.25 inch). Much more detail than the Lima set which I sold over thirty years ago when I moved here. Edited November 23, 2020 by cessna152towser

A small flat headed jeweller's type screwdriver does the job perfectly, no need to push down, just a small flick sideways movement is all that's required to switch on/off....

BR size buckeyes and the full size AAR ones will couple together, so an 08 with a drop head HST buckeye can be used to shunt wagons with a full size buckeye. However, it's not approved for main line usage, I've only seen it in private yards. Jo
