RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted January 12, 2022 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted January 12, 2022 Minerals pass, 9F nearly at journey's end, and the 02 still with several hours of work to do. I have managed to fail to conceal the end of the bridge again. The good news is that wall to wall sunshine is forecast, so the time of the W1 may get somewhat closer.
RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted January 12, 2022 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted January 12, 2022 Wall to wall sunshine there was, and quite a few trains ran. Five more still before W1 time. Very little sunshine where we are going now though. 28
RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted January 13, 2022 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted January 13, 2022 The C12 has had a bit of the limelight lately, but the poor old N5 has just been ignored, lucky if it is glimpsed in the background. Actually, I'm surprised there haven't been any complaints from a small island just to our west. In the end, someone strolling along Station Road took pity on it. Another day of lovely sunshine forecast here, so more trains will run later. 24
RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted January 13, 2022 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted January 13, 2022 Lovely sunshine indeed, lots more done, and the W1 was indeed on its normal morning duty. That's the good news. The not so good news for those who wish to see it, is that I now have 56 images in store, and the W1 is number 56. At the recent daily ration of two images, that means it may appear on 10th February. Always helpful, I shall try to expedite things a little, so here's one more shot- A3 Sandwich at the head of the White Rose.
RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted January 13, 2022 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted January 13, 2022 A rather unsuccessful image now, with a peculiar brown cast to it. We will get it out of the way, and be a little closer to W1 time. Not happy with that, so here is something a bit better.

It looks like the sort of shot we see from days of yore, albeit those weren't snapped from the 6' way! And by contrast with those old snaps - this one has real colour, as does the real world!
RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted January 14, 2022 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted January 14, 2022 A very cold and foggy day here. No trains ran, but quite a lot more Hunt couplings were fitted. I really have nearly finished now, I think. Your evening photo is the White Rose again, but this is the last one of it.
RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted January 15, 2022 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted January 15, 2022 Foggy here still. Indoor pursuits once more. Here is the morning York and Hull to KX service, and that filthy A2/3 is back on duty. 24

I love the look of a very used engine. 1
RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted January 15, 2022 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted January 15, 2022 Sun Stream is a rather inappropriate name for a locomotive in such a sad state, but still a better one than Sandwich.

RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted January 18, 2022 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted January 18, 2022 The Norseman now appears, with headboard, which was apparently unusual. I didn't crop this much, as it shows the massive bulk of the bridge well, and how Peter Leyland captured it. In other news, this afternoon I went to have a small mole removed from my face. Unfortunately the surgeon wasn't happy with it, or another small one that had appeared close to it, so it finished up being a bigger job than I had expected. I now have what he described as a deep graze, which can't be stitched, so it is dressings to be changed three times a week for a while, by which time we should have biopsy results as well, and the nurse has warned me I may not get much sleep tonight. Never mind, it is what it is, and I shall deal with things as they become clearer. I would like you all to know that a member of this forum volunteered to drive over 60 miles to be with me today, took me to the surgery, waited an hour and a half, brought me home, and organised everything for me, as I mustn't bend down for 24 hours. Among his several occupations he was in the past a nurse, and his knowledge and gentle support have been a great comfort to an old chap with an anxiety disorder. Would you all please give a round of applause for Clive Mortimore. I could not ask for a better or more considerate friend. 8 39

Hi Gilbert Sorry to hear about your problem, I have been in the same position for many years having various BCC’s removed as well. I wish you a speedy recovery as soon as possible, and all credit to your friend and fellow member for his kind gesture in helping out in obviously a very difficult time for you. All the very best. RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted January 19, 2022 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted January 19, 2022 Well, here I am. Managed to get some sleep despite being propped up on three pillows, little pain from the wound site, and no problems with post op bleeding. About as good as it could be, really. More than halfway through the first 24 hours now, so things should get easier soon. It really isn't easy to remember not to bend down, as it is such an automatic reaction. Many thanks for the support, and for giving Clive a well deserved round of applause. Back to the trains, and a rear three quarter view of Wild Swan as it takes the Norseman onwards. 26

Some words from the bard that seem most apposite: Those friends thou hast, and their adoption tried, Grapple them to thy soul with hoops of steel Hope the speedy recovery continues. Meanwhile, back to the trains... 6 2
RMweb Premium Popular Post Clive Mortimore Posted January 19, 2022 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted January 19, 2022 (edited) Yesterday was quite a good day. While Gilbert was having bits chopped off I went for a wander and found a bakers. I thought I will get myself a doughnut or a cake. I came out with a tasty sausage cob (that's what they call rolls in Nottinghamshire), a slice of yummy iced fruit cake, some lovely looking lemon tarts (not had one yet) and a delicious lamb and mint pie. I then had to go back and have another chat with Jade who served me as I left the bottle of coke I purchased on the counter. Top the lot on the way home form Gilbert's I saw my first real train of the year. What an exciting day. Very impressed with the ladies at the reception at Gilbert's GP's, there were no appointments for the first dressing change. They messaged all the nurses and the manager to see if they could fit Gilbert in. By the time Gilbert got home they had sorted out an appointment. The biggest surprise of the day was Gilbert doing as he was told. I am in trouble as forgot to start the meter in the Soloby Luxury Car taxi I was driving and the boss is upset with me. Very pleased to hear that Gilbert had a better than anticipated night. Gilbert, when you bend down to get the fish food, no one has stolen it as it was moved up higher on to the mantelpiece. RMweb Gold Oldddudders Posted January 19, 2022 RMweb Gold Share Posted January 19, 2022 Well done to Clive for service above and beyond, and at least you got to chat to Jade as a reward. I hope the biopsy finds all is benign and no further treatments are needed. 2 15

Yes, I know that, but I'm glad you reminded me, as I had pinned a notice to the mantelpiece telling me not to bend down, and the fish food had got hidden behind it. 14
RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted January 19, 2022 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted January 19, 2022 The other side of Wild Swan is now revealed. RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted January 20, 2022 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted January 20, 2022 Banned from railway room till next Tuesday. Fortunately I have plenty of pictures in store, but it would have been nice to go and play trains. Another look at Wild Swan, now moving past the spotters. Fairly successful, don't you think? 22
