Burton On Trent in N2

Yes the gap is pretty big. I would be doing my usual bogie frame lift that I did on the other 2 class 37's. I currently don't have any ballast wagons which is an issue as I have a nice PW yard to stick em in! I will probably source and build up some NGS kit versions as RTR wagons are silly money these days.

Hi Cav, now that I'm back to (almost) normal I will have a proper catch up on here, I have been absent on here for a while whilst doing other things but I do like Dutch 37's so looking forward to seeing it pulling something soon.

Do you have any bookings for BoT yet?

Thanks Andy, I was due to run at Mansfield in March but if I'm honest it may be tall order due to my spine operation break. I will have to see how I get on now until then.

I don't own that 37 it was just Peter asking if Farish made them.

Oh yes forgot you had done two 37s already. I had a quick look at the NGS website looks like they do some nice kits. I quite like building wagon kits myself all my Catfish and Dogfish on Llanbourne are kits.

Cheers Peter.

Yes the NGS stuff is pretty good. The RMC roadstones I have went together a treat.

The 37 looks pretty good but alas I don't have it!

Just rewinding to the Kingsbury tanks discussion. I have been sent a train list for 1991 through burton on trent. It seems that class 47s frequently ran the service in addition to the pairs of 31s and the 60s.

Now that will be an interesting line up at an exhibition. Some lovely trains there just waiting to be modelled. I would love to know what passenger service 37418 was on. Think it was in RF Petroleum livery by 1991.

Looking forward to seeing you getting going again. How is the back by the way. Hope its recovering well.

All the best mate

Marcus

Oddly I've found this picture of the very loco on the Derby to Skegness in 1991. Must have been on passenger duty a lot around Derby and BoT that year. The back is getting better but I started working again this week and its very twingy.

Ha yes glass back or what!

I suspect it was replacing 20s but isn't it odd that it was doing passenger duties around Derby for the whole year. Might be worth me having that loco on the roster!

I certainly won't be complaining if you add it to the roster. Will make a nice addition to the fleet and yet another loco in lovely 3TG livery but with the added bonus of being used on passenger services as well.

I know Bachmann normally produce in N what they've already done in OO but I can't remember if that was the case with 37428 in Petroleum as that would be a nice easy conversion.

Glad the old backs on the mend.

Cheers

Marcus

Glad to hear that your back is feeling better Cav.

Oh to be back in the early 90s! Great selection of traction and workings, that will make for great play time!

I could do as I did with 688 and convert 37239. I still have some spare nose grille etches.

Yes Alex there are a lot of services there. I can hear the wallet creaking as we speak.

The back isn't too bad but it is also creaking somewhat following my first week back working. Need to try not to do too much.

It's a nice contrast to see freight locos on a nice colourful take of passenger coaches. I remember reading an article on loco hauled Weymouth services during the 90's in railway modeller. The combinations were great. If I remember rightly one of the combinations was a construction sector 37 on regional railways mk2 stock.

Yes I do like to chuck a freight loco on a loco hauled service now and again. It adds something new and tells a story about the train in that for some reason the usual loco is unavailable. With BoT having recorded station announcments I may even do a late running blah blah blah one that then follows with a freight loco at the helm as though the train failed somewhere or other!

There was certainly an article by Simon and Andrew Tucker describing the "summer special" stock they assembled for their their layout Castle Cary, which comprised Departmental and Dutch 37s and blue/grey, NSE and Regional Mk1s and Mk2s IIRC.

cheers

I think the 90s was pretty good for 37 haulage. It's possible 37418 although in sector livery was in a passenger loco pool. I know 37425 was a regular on the North Wales Coast and other regional railway service trains.

I think I mentioned before the Newcastle - Poole was often Peak hauled as far as Birmingham. The loco would work the return working later in the day.

A couple of mine from back in the day.

Cheers Peter.

37418 passenger workings can be found here.

She definitely worked the coast in 3TG as I did manage to have her a couple of times in that livery.

The Coast loco!s did seem to flit backwards and forwards between two pools which I can't remember the codes off hand. One pool was dedicated to the coast whilst the other saw them working of Peak Forest a lot but would regularly stand in on the coast if one was available. All were allocated to Crewe at the time.

Then there was always some proper NB traction if neither were available.....

I remember this day well. Had been out all day Friday bashing and ended up doing an overnight up to Holyhead. The plan the next day was to do the Deltic on a XC service to Ramsgate. To do this meant going back to Brum with a 37 and arriving at about 5:30ish in the morning. To fill in a couple of hours ended up doing the 37 back out to Wolves via Bescot and then jumping on a Euston back to Brum. A normal overnight I would have stayed on the tractor back to Rhyl in the land of slumber.

Anyway on arrival back at Brum all my mates were up on the concourse. "Heard the news" was the greeting. "079 is coming out on the coast" Needless to say we didn't do the Deltic to Ramsgate and I could have had a nice doss back to Rhyl rather than some rancid fill in move round the Black Country in the early hours of the morning.

Ah, those were the days!!
