Hello, everyone. Tonight I have a photo' of some of the semaphore signals that remain at Bridlington. The photo' was taken from a train, and hence some artifacts,  about a year ago.

Hello, everyone. I though tonight we would have a look at platform 4, York station. The photo was taken at the beginning of March, 2012. The station was quite clean and smart that day.

Class D20 62355, 18 May 1951. Said to be at Hull, Dairycoates, but I can't relate to it being so.

Mick,

It could be the Southeast corner of the heavy repair shed. The brickwork looks right as do the windows and I can remember seeing the outline of  something on the East facing wall of the shed, which could be the extension with the sloping roof.

Thank you, Rob, for the two photo's of the Derby - Hull - Derby test train. Excellent to see the photo's of it.

Tonight, I have a photo', which has been cruelly enlarged, of part of the goods warehouse and Bridlington Quay signal box. It was taken from the front of a DMU in April, 1987. You can see the sand drag on the dead end line - used to be the down line when it was double track all the way to Seamer.

Mick,

This loco was shown as allocated to 53D - Bridlington, though in the August 1950 stock list, not 1951 as per the date of the photo. I would guess that some (maybe all) of Bridlington's D20's - there were four in August 1950 - may have been put into store over the winter. Could also be that the loco was stored at Hull Dairycoates or was there awaiting repairs. Judging from the layout, then the East end of Dairycoates repair shed - as someone else also observed - seems a likely location for the photo.

Looking at the 1950's layout of Bridlington shed seems to preclude this photo from being at Bridlington. Similarly Selby seems not to fit.

Cheers

MIke

Hello, everyone. I have been to York today. On getting back to Beverley, the class 142, had to go back to Hull ECS at 19.00. So I took a couple of photo's of it. The unit was 142094. Although why we still have an ECS movement like that bemuses me, for surely the train should be carrying passengers...

Kevin, here's a picture of Walton Street, and complete with its "Boom Gates", these replaced the conventional gates in December 1963. Your Grandma, must have lived very close to from where I'm now sat.

attachicon.gifWALTON STREET 9 Sun 19 April 1987.jpg

My Dad's family's house was in Alliance Avenue. I used to go Walton Street crossing if I remember rightly by going to the end of the avenue and turning right.

On the other side of the road from the house was a park/playing field the other side of which was the embankment carrying the H&B line over the top of which on match nights you could see the floodlight pylons at Boothferry park. Happy memories!.

I have always been led to believe the house was in Springbank West, but going through this topic I think that the nearest signal box on the line on the embankment was Springbank North or though I could be getting confused with all the goods lines and crossings that used to exist.

The photo is a bit sad. It is probably an optical illusion but is the lorry parked in the "four foot" ?  And as for the man clambering around on whats left of the roof....

A very interesting selection of photographs on this topic - glad some people have the foresight to record the everyday railway scene.

Regards

Kevin

Kevin, this is Springbank North signalbox, and probably how you saw it from your grandparent's house. The view is taken from the back garden of 249 Alliance Avenue c1955. I have lived Alliance Avenue since 1948, almost certainly, I would know them.

Hello, everyone. Today I went to Scarborough. On getting there in platform one was the Scarborough Spa Express, hauled by 8F 2-8-0, 48151. It was heading the train which was destined for Lancaster. It departed Scarborough at 5.15 P.M.

I have just uploaded a video from my Smartphone to You Tube of the 8F hauled train. It is 1 minute, 56 seconds long. The picture is tall, but I don't know how to alter that! I hope you will enjoy seeing the train depart Scarborough station.

Rob.

Thanks for posting this picture which a jogged a few memories.

I had forgotten about the overbridge and the allotments.

The light engine(s) were an interesting group probably an everyday scene back then.

Am I right in thinking that at the date of the photo the line was still open for local passenger traffic which would have gained access to Hull Paragon via the Walton Street connection?.
